It seems to take a fairly umoristic approach... The guy looks a lot like "The Ant", a character from the Freedom Force videogame series

Is this the Irredeemable Ant-Man? Fun.
I like how he's sort of wearing a classic Ant-Man helmet, but updated to not look ridiculous. As classic as that helmet is, I don't' think I need to see every Ant-Man wear it. This should give this guy a chance to both look different and find his own character.
Could be good.

Works for me. I don't have any "emmotional attachment" to the Ant-Man costume, and they're not stepping on Pym or Lang so what the heck. Have fun with it.

I guess that was my point when I chose the title -- is this going to be a humor title? If so, fine. But, if so, then don't later try to put the guy in the Avengers and make it all serious.
When Justice League rebooted in the Giffen/Maguire days, it was light-hearted from the start. Beetle and Booster, along with Guy Gardner provided some very funny moments with Batman and J'onn playing the straight-man. But it was set up to be that way from the start and it worked.

From what I've read in previews I assumed it's gonna be a humor title.

Well, I think the title, The Irredeemable Ant-Man, points up a humorous take.
Also, the writer, Robert Kirkman, can be funny. (In contrast, I usually find Keith Giffen merely weird.)
I often like Kirkman’s work (The Walking Dead, Invincible, Fantastic Four: Foes, Marvel Zombies, Marvel Team-Up), but I’m wary of the antihero (hmm…“antihero”?) concept of this series. I’ll check it out when I see it on the shelves.

Do we really need this? I mean, what is the point? And really, who in their right mind wants to be Ant-Man? It just isn't that impressive.

Evidently a long-absent AA!er has been getting some enjoyment out of this series—check out Irredeemable Ant-Man #3 for a letter from our very own Adrian J. Watts!

Although I love "Avengers Assemble" and think it's a great name for this site, I'm not so sure about refering to us as AAers. My first thought is "Oh, he's a recovering alcoholic. What's that got to do with anything." Of course, on the other hand, the reference does pay double homage to Ironman, Ms. Marvel, and quite probably, Hercules.

Of course you’re right, my arachnid-vespid friend—I didn’t mean to imply that anyone here is actually facing his compulsions. But I did use an exclamation point in “AA!ers”, in exclamation of the point that we are Avengers Assemble ! denizens. Nevertheless, I suppose that for clarity I could try to use some other term like “Assemblers”—though the way that word begins would seem to lend itself too readily to abuse.
