This just in: In addition to the Marvel vs DC Jeopardy tourneys, I will also be moderating a Trinoc-Con panel discussion called "Dead Tree Comics," about the state of mainstream and indy (printed on paper, as opposed to Web-only) comics; the impact of the Web upon them, etc. Joining me will be Gene Kannenberg, Jr. (noted author on the subject of the history of comics in pop culture) and others. I will also be on a panel in the SF Literature track, discussing the possible ramifications of time travel into the past (only). As a history guy, this should be a lot of fun-- like when I bring up Adrianople or William II's nerve-damaged arm, and everyone stares at me blankly. Maybe I'll bring up Kang, too. Hope to see you there!

Just a quick update to report that Trinoc-Con was great. "Marvel vs DC Jeopardy" had a bumpy first session on Saturday afternoon, as I discovered I'd left the final versions of both games on my computer at work!! But the contestants and audience were kind enough to bear with me as I read the questions (answers, I mean) aloud. The second session, on Sunday, was great-- a good audience turnout, and another competitive match. The winners were Gene Kannenberg, Jr., in the first match, and John Bellew in the second. Congrats, guys! And great job of knowing your stuff! The contemporary comics panel went well, as Gene K., Matt Wood (of the Dada Detective strip) and I discussed current trends in comics, for good and ill. The "time travel" panel was fun, too-- I was among a batch of noted SF writers, and had my SENTINELS book propped up there on the table alongside theirs! I also got drafted to be a performer in a radio drama the guests performed, and that was a blast. [When I say "among" here, I mean physically, not accomplishment-wise! Yet!!] And speaking of SENTINELS, I sold an entire box of the books just on Sunday afternoon, sitting on Artists' Alley. Signed a couple of "autographs" in people's program books, too. Yes, I was a micro-celebrity for a couple of days. Ha! ;D And also commissioned a nice sketch of my main character, Pulsar, from Jamie Robertson (of Clan of the Cat). I will definitely be back next year. It's a small con, but a very intimate, friendly, fun one.
