Thank you for the warm wishes, everyone. I spent most of my birthday online -- at a Best Buy! Unfortunately, the Solid State Drive is bad on my old Eee PC... so I had to exchange it for a different one. Now I'm going to spend today trying to put Debian on the PC, should be fun. I've always told my comic buddies about sharing a birthday with Stan "The Man". "Hey guys, guess whose birthday I share?! " One smart aleck always says Woodrow Wilson... pfft! I'm not too far behind you guys, I'm already losing a lot more hair than I'd like to admit.

I have been most remiss in not checking in with this thread. Hope you had a great birthday, from one Assembling Doc to another! You're the best thing to happen to this site in 2008!

Thank you for the wonderfully kind words, Doom. sharkar: I also share my birthday with one of my heroes, Cliff Arquette, better known by his character name, Charley Weaver! Wrestling fans know that I share my birthday with none other than "Leaping" Lanny Poffo, as well! Ahhh, Lanny was an interesting character...

Charley was wonderful on the Squares (As was the always funny Rose Marie!), but I am and will always be a Wally Cox fan!! Plus, I adored Underdog as a kid.

Pym, dlw, Tana and Shiryu, Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes! I had a great birthday though regrettably, I didn't receive any presents related to comics. For some reason my friends/family still think my interest in comics is a passing thing...I guess they don't visit the AA boards.

[PS, As a present, I ordered a copy of "John Romita and all that jazz", which I first saw on a certain comics blog around the web Thanks, Shiryu! You'll really enjoy the book--in addition to detailing Jazzy Johnny's illustrious, decades-long career, the book contains a ton of information and anecdotes about comic book history, Stan, the Bullpen, what's involved in comic book production, etc. John was actually onsite at the Marvel offices and he was in many ways Stan's right hand man for several years. A highly recommended, fascinating book.

A highly recommended, fascinating book. I'm devouring it, it's really interesting. A lot of info about how Marvel worked at the time and over the years. It sounds like it was both a lot of fun and a very very hard work to be in the bullpen.

Ooh-ooh, it's not quite over yet! Are you still up? Have you over-celebrated? Was your cake a blazing celebration of a life fully-lived? Or a Twinkie with a used candle melting quietly into the petroleum-enriched spongefoodcakesubstance?
Make it special, man----!
