So I gather Marvel re-retconned their parentage so that they aren't Magneto's offspring. goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2015/01/25/the-abandoned-an-forsaked-magneto-is-quicksilver-and-scarlet-witchs-dad-or-is-he/From what I gather this is widely held to be at the behest of on high due to the IP issues in the various film franchises (the MCU doesn't have the rights to mutants, hence the emphasis on Inhumans). Anyway, I've always really liked the idea of them as Magneto's kids. I think it makes sense and really works -giving genuine depth and stature to the characters. I was interested to know what you guys think. I was never keen on the Whizzer/Miss America ancestry but perhaps this'd be the place to find its adherents?

I don't like the retcon. Magneto as the father, and their redemption from villains to Avengers is a great story--as is. The movie also made a nice case for them being redeemed for their villainy.

I guess. . . I guess it doesn't matter a lick, really, 'cause as far as I can tell there IS no real "Marvel Universe" anymore. Disney's Cinematic U is the driving engine as far as the baseline awareness of several hundred million people goes, and since that U is painfully limited by short-sighted, fast-money, decades-old, unresolvable IP decisions and machinations, that billion-plus dollar tail has now literally wagged the source-material dog out of existence, yes? I mean, no, I hate to see such a rich, wild, historical tapestry jettisoned because of mismanagement-- but I confess that the bulk of my grief process is a solid couple of years behind me, now. . .

HB I'm essentially a believer in the attitude expressed on these sites: the original marvel universeThe Fantastic Four (1961-89): the Great American NovelAs such I generally view anything after c.'91 that's actually any good to be a bonus. In that regard my grief over the jettisoning of the MU is a very long way behind me. It's still pretty grotesque to see such a strong story element ditched as a result of what appears to be corporate driven interference. It speaks volumes for the lamentable state of Marvel. As you suggest, being beneath the heel of Disney may well have truly dire consequences if the comics' content are now to be determined by the cinematic universe and Disney's needs in that regard.

Well, wasn't the Magneto reveal a retcon to begin with as well?
I'm surprised it's lasted this long, but it doesn't surprise me that it's been undone or reversed. Having Eric as their father gave the twins a large dramatic element that I do hate to see undone though.
