I think Ant-man is not on that meme because it is only about the announcement of the latest batch of movies and Ant-man was announced some time back.

OKAY! 3 hour countdown has started for AVENGERS 2!!!! I'm excited, it will be hard to top the first movie, but I'll let you know how it ends.....just kidding! PEACE Ha! Welllllllll, SF, I'm gonna go ahead and hazard a guess that the Avengers probably aren't going to die in the end (although that daggone Joss Whedon is sure one for killing major characters off right when you love them the most. . . ). I've honestly not caught much scuttlebutt at all about any plot particulars of the film-- no rumors or anything. Simply from a here's-how-Hollywood-works perspective, I'd say it's likely that Ultron will be soundly defeated. . . but not quite as finished off as everyone expects. Geeze, you know what would be cool? A final coda that recreates on film the last page of Avengers #57-- the OZYMANDIAS sequence, with the kid idly playing with (and ultimately breaking) Ultron's head. . . oh MAN-- with James Spader doing the voiceover for the poem! (Or perhaps Tom Hiddleston-- in order to keep the Loki connection viable. . . ) I believe I would audibly weep right there in the theater if that were to be the case. . . HB

Cripes, suddenly all these social demands! HB What did you think of the movie with Johnny Depp? *sigh* Being best pals with Johnny Depp is no excuse to put him in the lead in every single movie one directs. Helena B-C was certainly serviceable in her role, and the rest of the cast did a credible-to-fine job--- but Depp's frozenly immobile performance (of a character driven by almost impossible levels of rage of lust for vengeance) was in a race to the bottom with his paper-thin, truly pedestrian singing voice. Even in a film, vocal power is an essential in that performance-- that's our access to the turmoil going on within Todd. Len Cariou and George Hearn were the two first guys to carry that role on Broadway. HUGE booming baritones. Nah-- it was a major disappointment, I'm afraid. (Boy, how OT can we get, here, eh?) HB

Okay, no spoilers here, have no fear.....
IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST MOVIE!!!!!!!!
SW, Quicksilver, Vision, and HAWKEYE figure into the plot WAAAAAY more than I anticipated.
WANDA's powers are WAAAAY cooler than her "hex" powers from the comics.
TONS of heroes, villains, and future hero/villains for later movies (I hope).
I saw it 3D....worth the extra $$$, IMO.
Don't assume where the "romance" in the movie will bloom...
and finally, check out the Vision's EYES!
Nuff Said, now get out there true believers, so we can FINALLY have something to talk about on AA!!!!!
oh yeah, the previews are worth the price of your ticket, wink-wink.

We're going to wait a week or so before trying to see the film. My wife is agoraphobic and crowded theaters make her very uncomfortable so this opening weekend is definitely out. So hopefully by the middle of next week, in the afternoon, the crowds will have tapered off some.

Just got back from an afternoon showing-! HBWife & HBGirl went to a Sheep & Wool Festival this afternoon after the bikeride.
I. . . believe I liked the film quite a lot, but I honestly am going to have to see it again because the viewing experience was so sub-par (I verged on leaving a couple of times).
a) Apparently some family reunion decided a 2-1/2 hour movie would be a great group activity for themselves and the three (count them, THREE!) unrestrained, vocal, demanding toddlers that were under two years old. Many, many quieter moments ruined by that.
b) I need to check in w/ you folks-- was the entire film dimly lit, with a pronounced amber hue to your perceptions? I'm certain there was a problem with either projector lamp setting, or that the lens itself must have had a film on it (likely the former, though). I found I was working hard to actually "see" most of the scenes.
Still aggravated by all that-- but can give some truer feedback a bit later.

I totally agree about the movie. Loved it. I expected Vision to make a short appearance but was pleasantly surprised by what a great job they did with him. Same goes for Pietro and Wanda and even War Machine. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the Falcon but I liked what little there was. As for the previews, that's where we disagree. The Fantastic Four movie looks absolutely awful to me. Superman v Batman? I don't know. I hated Man of Steel and this isn't making me think it's going to be any better. I did like the Ant-man trailer pretty well, but I'm still bummed about no signs of the Wasp. I'm really more interested in this movie because I like the character than because of what I saw on the screen. When it comes down to it, I'm looking forward to it despite anything I've read or seen rather than because of it. Overall, I found the previews to be very lackluster and did very little to make want to see any of the movies.

I plan on seeing it next week, and I'm already excited after reading starfoxx's comments. I assume that there is an added scene after the closing credits, yes? At our showing, there was an added scene after the initial credits (as per usual), but there wasn't anything at all after the full credit roll finally finished. That added scene absolutely floored me, because I had jokingly commented somewhere, right around the time that it was leaked that Ultron would be the villain for Avgrs2, what I thought that scene would likely be---- and my god, my prediction was almost word-for-word and image-for-image smack on target. I felt like a super-genius. . . but there wasn't anyone sitting around me that seemed to recognize my glorified status. . . (Granted, it does seem to be a very, very predictable direction, plotwise. Inevitable, in fact. . . ) Geeze, I kinda feel like they hit a home-run with The Vision. Just nailed it. Origin's different in its details-- yet is so wonderfully true to the underlying spirit of the source material. And the writing/direction were rather brilliant in their ability to get us (the audience) to embrace this important character so incredibly late in the film. For you movie/theater buffs out there, think "Banjo" in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. . . HB

As for the previews, that's where we disagree. Well, the ONLY two previews at the (first) show I went to was for ANTMAN and STAR WARS, and both were in 3D....my first STAR WARS 3D experience, and that trailer is just too cool (even in 2D), so that's why I was excited. I actually snuck in to a 2D Avengers 2 show last night, after I had paid $15 for the Grateful Dead Meet-Up Movie, so I definitely got my $$'s worth, ha-ha! and at first I was just going to watch a little....well, I just couldn't leave....I admit, I tend to not pay attention and get lost in movie plots all the time, but I must argue that Avengers 2 all made sense to me, and the story moves along at perfect pace. (I didn't REALLY NEED to know about BW's "personal" situation, and I thought it might be a bit too adult for a "kids" movie, but whatever.) And DON'T bother sticking around for an END CREDITS scene......there's a REALLY cool appearance just after the INITIAL, Avengers-statue credits, but once the black and white credits roll, that's all folks! ENJOY!

The FF movie looks like it can at best be said to be "inspired" by the Marvel comic. I think even saying it was "based on" would be a major breach of credibility. I've heard almost nothing about the film; have read not a single thing about story or plot or arc-- here's what the new preview tells me: These four whiz-kid youngsters (well, three whizzes and a. . . baseball nut?) are exposed to a transmutative process as they attempt to pierce a dimensional barrier into what HAS to be the Negative Zone. And it looks like the Big Bad in there is. . . Dr Doom (??). So. . . for this origin, the Moon has become the Negative Zone, but Annihilus has become. . . Doom. And it looks like Johnny & Sue's dad is running the scientific show here. So there's a chunk of Ultimate FF being drawn from. The one, sole thing I was kind of liking, actually, was the young man playing Johnny-- even in the preview he was coming across as more of a real person than the comic book ever seemed to deliver. (And man, I have NO PROBLEM whatsoever with that family having a mixed-race element. I buy it completely and am happy to leave it as a non-issue. It's a reminder of some of the too-few fond memories I have of me ol' home town in Michigan. . . ). But overall? Gah, there's no "there" there, y 'know? Not a lot o' charisma jumping off of that screen.

Couldn't remember my password...
I wasn't hugely impressed by Age of Ultron on first viewing.
I'm not really bothered about them replacing Hank's role. I was disappointed that Wanda doesn't have her proper probability affecting hex power but it's no biggie. I thought their presentation of Ultron was okay for the purposes of a movie and that James Spader was excellent as always. I really enjoyed seeing the Vision.
Generally though the script was no match for the 1st movie (not that it didn't have its moments)and the storyline was rather jumbled and purposeless. It was just a succession of action sequences that felt empty as a result. It lacked the core of character and narrative drive that tied the 1st movie together.
Whilst this was certainly not as horrible a film as something like Iron Man 3 it fell a long way short of the preceding Avengers movie or the frankly magnificent Winter Soldier.

From what I'm reading about Age of Ultron from Joss Whedon it sounds like it was a troubled process making this film with a lot of studio interference at cross purposes from the director.
Apparently the Thor subplot was supposed to be much longer and actually make sense for one thing.
If it was a 'difficult shoot' that might well explain why it seems like a bit of a mess dramatically to me. I must say I was rather disappointed by the film.

We went to a late showing of the film this weekend, not really crowded which was nice and no real distractions from among those around us. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the action scenes were frenetic (another poster elsewhere commented on a faithful depiction of one comic scene and I agree, wonderful job: The personal beats were good, the romance in question was a surprise but I rather like the development and I'm interested in seeing how it plays out in later films. I did like Pietro and Wanda, though I'm still slightly confused over Wanda's powers. How exactly was she able to produce visions of the future in certain people? The last shot of her in the film, quite remarkable. James Spader was terrific, and you all are right, for being revealed so late in the film, the Vision was a very pleasant surprise, such a wonderful adaption of his character, really looking forward to seeing more of him. The biggest surprise for me was Hawkeye. This whole time, from Cap 2 to the AOS TV show, I kept wondering, where was Hawkeye during all of this? Some nice background exposition for him, with all the discussion over are they 'monsters' or not, Clint seems to be the most grounded one of them all (really liked his comment of how the team are 'his mess') Apparently the Thor subplot was supposed to be much longer and actually make sense for one thing. Yeah, I would have liked to have seen more of that aspect so maybe those scenes will be included on an upcoming DVD release (similar to what Singer is doing with X-Men DOFP, a new release this July will see all of Rogue's scenes reinstated into the film, SO looking forward to that). As for trailers, we saw the Ant-Man trailer, which looked fun, I'm assuming the bad guy ends up being Yellowjacket?! We also saw Tomorrowland, which looks interesting. My only quibbles with the film, I would have loved to have heard Thor say at one point, "Ultron, we would have words with thee" and my position is, yes, Steve should be able to lift Mjolnir, though rather surprised at who else was able to.

I saw the Winter Soldier as instructed. Yes? Yes? And did you like it okay? It's probably hard to live up to its hype for you, would be my guess. I know it gets mentioned often as a "Best Superhero Movie Ever Made" contender. . . but so have a lot of others. It has some tremendous strengths that I do love (the nature of the climactic fight scene with Cap & Bucky, f'rinstance). . . but I don't know if I could separate it, personally, from AVENGERS, or SPIDERMAN2, say, for the crown. Y'know? HB
