I feel that I must make note of this passing.
#23 will see the end of the Legion of Superheroes. While the exact ending is unknown at this time, by all accounts, this would appear to be the end of the Legion as we know it for the foreseeable future.
In it's place, DC will publish Justice League 3000 by Giffen, DeMattis, and McQuire (yes, the same bunch who did JLI back in the 80s)
1000 years in the future, you have almost the exact same roster, with the exact same genders, with probably the exact same roles.
To consider this a slap in the face by DC is to put it mildly. I've been a Legion fan for quite awhile, through the team's highs and lows. But this team and concept have been an integral part of DC for decades and to see them abandon it or worse, replace them with Justice League, is terrible.
I was at work the other day, having read all the various comments and threads on this subject before doing so, and I found myself getting rightfully mad, angry.....over a comic book. That hasn't happened in a long while but this may very well be the straw for me with DC.
I cannot and will not support this title. The future belongs to the Legion.

Ugh. As a Legion fan since the late 70's (it's my all time faovrite DC title) this is terrible news. I've not been much of a collector of new comics, though I did pick up a couple of Legion TPB's last year, but I think this is a terrible idea. It reminds me of Marvel in the 90's when they tried to make everybody into the X-Men.

Ehh...they'll be back. Eventually. The dearth of any actual new ideas guarantees the eventual return of ones favourites. I loved the LSH going back to pre-Grell and Cockrum era stories, but even I find it difficult to be excited by them, and that's with the likes of Levitz and Shooter having penned the book in recent years! Give it 3-5 years and we will see the LSH return.

OH wow, I JUST saw this thread.
LOSH was one of the 4 current titles on my pull-list. And the ONLY DC book.
I REALLY enjoyed the last issue I read, #20. The storyline has been really interesting, and I was kind of surprised that some members are being killed off......well, now it makes sense.
I'm pretty disappointed, but I'm starting to get used to this---Guardians of the Galaxy, Heroes for Hire......Just another example of why I feel like I'm losing touch with popular opinion of what is considered "good". Most things I like are disappearing, and replaced by garbage.
This trend does NOT bade well for Fearless Defenders, another current favorite of mine.

I'm sure the Legion will be back at some point, but it's the notion that, to boost sales, DC is replacing it with a Justice League title.
Giffen'c comments in a few interviews on this new title are annoying and condescending. To paraphrase, he says someone needs to come up with a fresh take on the Legion and that if fans wanted to read the Legion, "here's a radical idea, buy the book!"
No, Giffen, if DC would produce a good, quality Legion book, fans would buy it. But sadly, they seem to have run out of creative steam for this title, Levitz has lost the creativity (and perhaps adoration) for these characters, and suddenly it's the fans' fault for the cancellation of the title?!
And he has no room to speak of fresh takes, not when this title consists of the same tried-and-true Leaguers. If DC had any creativity left, they'd mix this team up some more.
Besides, if I wanted to read a future JL, I'd read Justice League Beyond, which has a better, more interesting line-up and is a decent fun title.

I actually considered this latest LOSH title to be a good, quality Legion comic book. I thought Levitz did a great job of writing stories that were consistent to the pace and action that I enjoyed as a kid reading comics in the 1980s. And the art was always nice, the coloring excellent, IMO.
But I feel I was the only one enjoying this series. Even the older guys (well, my age guys) at my LCS weren't impressed with this book.
I'm interested if anyone on the AA boards was reading this "last" run by Levitz. ??
I'm an 80s baby, and for my taste, I'd have trouble comparing any current comic titles' consistency and quality to this title. In other words, it was my "go-to" comic that I would enjoy consistently month-to-month. (Kind of like A&L's Guardians of the Galaxy, and Heroes for Hire, RIP).
btw, I just read #21, and the destruction and death continues--- kinda sad (I think) I know how it's going to end--- but it's still a great comic ,(the art and color is SO good), and I'm loving it even more since time is almost up.

I've only read volume 1 of the TPB. I thought it was good, but I wasn't blown away by it or anything. I'd probably need to read some more issues to give it a fair shake. Maybe they'll make their way into a dollar bin at some point.

*Some spoilers abound*
At first, I thought the lack of rebooting was a good thing for the current Legion title, but in hindsight, this may have been a bad move. If anything, the book felt as if it was still attached to the pre-Flashpoint DCU instead of the Nu52 continuity. Thus there was an overall sense of disconnect from the rest of DC's line.
Most of Levitz's run was okay, of the new characters, I didn't like Harmonia Li. She's still something of an unknown quantity other than her maybe-crush on Brainy.
But the story plots lacked the same sizzle or spark that Levitz had in his previous LSH work. Also, I don't think he was handling the sub-plots in the same fashion that he was previously.
I dropped the title for awhile simply because I was bored with it. Ironically enough, I picked it back up for the last arc with Giffen. Giffen's art had a real Kirbyeseque look about it which I enjoyed. The pace, actions, and drama picked up as well as if Levitz was re-energized by Giffen's involvement.
Sadly, that didn't last long but the current storyline is still interesting. The Fatal Five looks darn near unbeatable and I'm wondering how the Legion will survive this. Portela's art is terrific. It's also hard to say whether this storyline was intentional beforehand or was edited to fit the upcoming JL 3000 title.
As for the Legionnaires' deaths and injured, I was shocked by Sun Boy's demise but felt cheated because it happened off-panel. Levitz seems to have it in for my favorite Legionnaire Mon-El, considering the beating he took from the Empress.
My only real gripe of the current story is Tinya's characterization. Someone of her experience and power shouldn't be whining and crying over the destruction going on around her. Instead, she would be helping to avert or stop such rampages.

Sun Boy died?! That is terrible that they did it off panel. That reminds me of how they killed Cyclops off screen in X3. Yes, I agree that Tinya is better written as a stronger character.
