Once again the Marvel Universe (3 3/4") line gets all the cool Marvel characters. www.marvel-legends.com/hasbros-sdcc-2012-exclusive-marvel-masters-of-evil/a modern Zemo, Radioactive Man, and TIGER SHARK! they also have made 3 3/4" Enchantress, Wrecker, and the original Capt. Britain. I hope all these guys (and gals) show up in the Marvel Legends size, like Klaw, Constricter, Thunderball, and Piledriver have. Man, I want a Marvel Legends Tiger-Shark.

Yeah, but unless you want to dish out $70 or whatever via ebay, most of us aren't going to be able to purchase the Masters of Evil set due to it being a convention exlcusive (unless someone heading to CC want to pick me up one). I was very bummed when I saw this.

Wow, it's been awhile since I've been on the board (news of a first kiddo on the way will do that...) but I was able to pick one of the Masters of Evil sets on the Hasbro store after the con for $30. With shipping it put me out $38 but it's not a bad little set.

With shipping it put me out $38 but it's not a bad little set. Hoo-boy. . . how to put this delicately? Don't. . . maybe, don't get too used to being able to make those kinds of impulse purchases for awhile. . . I'm just sayin'-- (as BMB would say. ) Although I have to say-- about 15 years ago, Marvel's ToyBiz line put out a BAJILLION nicely boxed action figures supporting both their cartoons and more heavily marketed books. A friend happened to give me one as a thank-you gift (Spiderman w/ web wings). And a very young HBSon LOVED it. KBToys was the primary vendor for these, and they wildly overstocked, and then the figures didn't move for, like, years. They finally dropped to around $3 or so each, just as HBSon developed an enormous interest in making big ol' superhero battle "set-ups". So, as a good father, I was able to acquire about 35 of these guys (and gals) over the next couple of years. Oh, many are kind of broken now, and all beat-up, and missing some accessories. The the joy of acquisition was outdone only by the joy of them actually being used as the toys they were meant to be. . . *sigh* I'm gettin' all misty-eyed. . . HB

HB's last post about the KayBee/ToyBiz action figures reminds me that although I stopped reading/buying comic books @1992 and started back up with the second Volume of Avengers @ 1998, I was still buying lots of Marvel action figures @ 1996-97, when they were about $3 a piece in the bargain bins. (Now that I think about it, I also started buying STAR WARS figures around this time, as they started up with better sculpts of all my favorites , most of which I had lost or destroyed.) I LOVED the fact that lots of the super-heroes/villains I grew up with were now action figures. I still buy any first time figures when they become Marvel Legends--and get pretty excited when I see characters like Piledriver, Thunderball, or Constrictor are getting the ML treatment. (Still waiting for that Starfox figure........might be a while.....)

(Still waiting for that Starfox figure........might be a while.....) Although the action figures are rather outside my own realm of collecting geekiness, SF, I do find that I have a question that you might have some insight on: What do you suppose the criteria is, exactly, to qualify a character as a "Marvel Legend"-? It does seem like they cast a rather wide, indiscriminate net. I mean, the Constrictor?? A Legend? Heck, I think the Wrecking Crew rather push the envelope, although there's no question that they'd make a very fun action-figure set. I only have a couple myself- Cap, circa issue #100, and the Hulk's Maestro figure- but I don't think there's any question that they fit the billing, as it were. What's your take on this? D'you think maybe a character becomes a "legend" because they want to make that figure, and thus declare it to be one? HB-- Jimmy Olsen's intern--

All I know is as my wife continues to look at the collection grow, I just continue to explain to her "I'm pre-emptively planning for the kiddo's toy needs..." It gets one of those raised-eyebrow looks... but I'm not missing any of them yet
