Okay, that was botched. Anyway, I found out YJ will return in September. Does anyone care to speculate as to what we'll see when the show returns? The Impulse episode seemed like an odd stopping point, but we did learn the Dom-er, Krolotaens will vanquish the Earth and destroy it.
The thing is, usually when we see an animated series the storylines are hacks/retellings/ mash-ups of previous stories told in the comics. EMH was very much this way. Don't get me wrong, we all want to see those classic panels brought to life, but it's sometimes been there, done that. I have noticed Marvel stuff tends to recycle stories much more than DC. The Batman and Superman shows had all the classic elements of the comics but pretty much made all new stories, and YJ is following suit. Is Bruce Timm responsible for this? At first I thought it was because the comic YJ was pretty goofy at times so really they had no bank vault of tales to mine, but they really could have retold a lot of Teen Titans comics if they wanted to. The previous TT series had interesting, entertaining versions of Mad Mod and Ding Dong Daddy, so I suppose some elements of the comic YJ might creep in. Heck, Impulse made it, and Bart has never been a serious character. It also occurred to me that Dick Grayson dissecting words like overwhelmed or disaster was a very well executed nod to "holy whatever Batman!" and not nearly as annoying. Any thoughts?

I think you're right about Marvel recycling comic stories. I wonder if there will be some time travel involved in YJ? I find it hard to believe that the earth will be destroyed, after all.

Since last week (at least here) was a repeat, does anyone know when the next new episode is coming out?

Late September. I forget the exact date, but I'm pretty sure it's around the 22. I'm glad they seem to be focusing less on the JLA aspect on more on YJ. Now if they were to do a new JLA series and tie it in with YJ, I would be so great with that.

Thanks for the info. I agree that it would be great to have a separate JLA cartoon. Much as I love the Justice League, it does seem like they're getting a lot of airtime in YJ.

I personally think the title Young Justice is quite inaccurate; it bears very little in common with the comic, and after the five year jump it has even less in common. That's not really a bad thing as the comic was often silly; Peter David loves to make a joke and then run it into the ground. I can see how they didn't want to call it Teen Titans, but it's not really YJ either.

I have to admit, I dislike the name Young Justice. It sounds more like a law firm than a superhero team. How about just the Titans?

I have to admit, I dislike the name Young Justice. It sounds more like a law firm than a superhero team. How about just the Titans? I felt like I didn't dare say anything ('cause I've never seen the show-- and likely won't have an opportunity to-), but I kind of agree. "Young Justice" has too much of an immature, "tryin'-to-sound-cool" tone to it. Are they indeed the Teen Titans, or are they sort of a "Young Justice League"-? Like Ultron, I always kind of thought that the Teen Titans should simply go by THE TITANS. It's a terrific team name w/ a long real-world history. And even as a youngster I wondered to myself, do they then have to quit on their 20th birthday?? What if they all get to college age or older-- don't they feel kind of silly calling themselves "Teen" Titans?? Sheesh-- like a bunch of aging boy-band members struggling to hang on to a rapidly fading ideal of youth. . . (There's actually a probably pretty cool, albeit darkish & satirical, story to be told with that scenario-) . . . Or maybe it's like Logan's Run, where they only get to have a certain lifespan. . . Ah well-- I too vote for THE TITANS. HB

Those were more or less my feelings, HB. By the way, isn't a Logan's Run remake coming out in the not so distant future?

Those were more or less my feelings, HB. By the way, isn't a Logan's Run remake coming out in the not so distant future? Gosh, I hadn't heard about that, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. It's certainly been long enough since the original. I kind of fear how the story would fair under a super-duper, mega-CGI-effect treatment, though. That comfortable, sterile, claustrophobic dome environment that so much of the story is set in is, like, the opposite of what "event" sci-fi producers want to put out there these days. In fact, I would try to steer it into the hands of the team that did THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, if the decision were mine. Grounded in a real(istic) environment w/ just enough special effects to seamlessly support the SF story being told. Hmm. And definitely lose all the 70's hairstyles. . . HB

The term Young Justice came because reporters were trying to call the the Young Justice League. The heroes tried to correct them saying "we're young, but it's just us." The blockhead reporter interpreted that as Young Justice. Peter David loves his puns and corny jokes. I'm fine with either Young Titans or New Titans or just Titans.

OMG, that hilarious etymology makes me like the name about 20 times better! Peter David's writing this series? Did not know that. Now I'll almost certainly look for its DVD release. HB

Peter David wrote the comic and has written several episodes. The show is a more serious take on many of the elements in the comic, with a generous sprinkling of the Titans. It is not quite EMH, but still quite good.

I like the name better after hearing the etymology, too, but I'm still not too crazy about it. Oh well, as long as the stories are good, I can live with the name. Yeah, Peter David has done some good stuff.

Personally, I'm dying to see how the Roy Harper thing turns out. Roy has always been treated poorly and anytime they try to revamp him it somehow either comes out worse or lasts 3-4 months before he's back in the crapper. I really liked the YJ version of Roy initially; everyone else is content to be sidekicks, he wants respect for his skills. He stands out. He's quick, he's competent, he's confident.
But oh, well, he's not really a person. The real Roy is still 14 or so and missing an arm somehow (quite crucial for an archer) so even with everything clone Roy accomplished, it means nothing. Hopefully, we will find older Roy is actually the real one, young Roy is an uncompleted clone, and maybe we'll see Connor Hawke at some point. Still, I know Green Arrow travels a lot, but how do you explain his total ignorance at his sidekick losing an arm and being replaced? I can think of a few ways but they are all not good. Roy is like Marvel's Jean Grey; the just keep dumping on one character.

I like your thoughts....but I am tired of the whole clone/alternate outcome/backdoor escape idea.
It is a lazy tool for lazy writers.
If it is meant as some kind of 'homage'...maybe....but even that has been overdone.

The clone thing/alternate universe/ timeline thing can be done well. Marvel drove it into the ground back in the 90's, however and the stink has yet to wear off. X-Men, Spider-Man and the FF all suffered these embarassments. DC just reboots every couple of years. I know sales spiked initially;but I wonder how they are doing now. People get tired of things when it becomes too prevalent. I'm waiting for zombies and sensitive vampires to fall out of favor so they can be revamped.

I am with Pym, I despise clone and alternate universe things. They are almost always poorly done and an excuse for lazy writers.

I don't disagree about the clone /alternate universe thing being misused, but off the top of my head I can think of two movies that used each pretty well. The first would be the Jet Li flick "The One" the second would be "Moon " starring Sam Rockwell from Iron Man 2 and directed by David Bowie's son, Gordon. I'm not saying the ideas aren't handled badly quite often, just that when they are handled correctly they can be quite good. Really the same could be said for time travel stories, horror movies, or even comics in general. Every once in a while you can find a gem.

I generally hate time travel stories, too (not too crazy about horror movies either) for the same reasons. Some of these things are easier to get away with in a one shot movie as opposed to a comic where a company (Marvel, for instance) abuses the heck out of a concept and cheapens the whole thing. No doubt it can be well done sometimes. One was pretty good and I've heard good things about Moon though never seen it.

I'm pretty much in the same boat Ultron, I'm just saying that exceptions exist. And sometimes a goofy misused idea can be rescued. Deadpool started out as a bland 2d (you know what I mean) character, and the correct writer came along and filled the character out. The same could be said of Beast Boy or Firestorm. I don't think Wonder Woman is a bland character or Captain Marvel either; heck pretty much everyone I know dislikes Superman or at least prefers Batman. And most of them have never read "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" or All-Star Superman, or the Man of Steel. That doesn't mean in the right hands these characters can't have the purpose or dignity they can achieve, it just means crappy writers turn out crappy stories. The best example I can think of is the short story "A Sound of Thunder" vs. a pretty crummy movie The Butterfly Effect. Same idea, just lousy execution.

I think almost any character can be good with a good enough writer (and a good artist sure helps) so I imagine the same may be applicable with story ideas. The X-Men really left a bad taste in my mouth for alternate timeline stories, which maybe be one reason why the last Star Trek movie annoyed me, for all its good points.

I'm re-watching all the episodes to be ready. Invasion and the five year jump is still pretty jarring. I still want M'gan and Superboy to get back together. No offense to Lagoon Boy, but he's well, Lagoon Boy. Bart and Garfield are going to be a lot of fun, but what about Offspring, the son of Plastic Man? Talk about nuts! I could really do without Blue Beetle or Cyborg (if they bring him in) because I feel I've seen them too much lately. Jehrico might be nice, but I'd prefer to skip Starfire and Raven, because the Teen Titans cartoon featured them so heavily.
On the 29th? I'm posting "Today's the day." Take care everybody!

Is Offspring going to be in the next season? That could be fun. However, that might be too many goofballs on one team. I'm a Bronze Age New Teen Titans fa, so I don't mind if they bring any of that crew aboard.
