No worries, Bob Looks like it's gonna be a long movie! 2.5 hours Indeed. Just yesterday a friend, who to my knowledge has never read a comic book in his life, mentioned the Joker and Two-Face to me. I couldn't believe it! PS, exalt to Kidcage, what an excellent way to promote the film!

At the end of each of the lectures I use in my "Women in Film" course, I give the student a random video, usually something funny (opening song from "Three Amigos", etc)... Last night, it was this. Nothing like a class room full of people go "I didn't know about this, but this looks AWESOME." So I might've at least convinced 28 non-Avengers fans to see this movie. If they do this right, which I have a slight feeling they will, I will see this movie four times in the theater. Seriously Marvel... take my money. Unless I'm mistaken, Kidcage, this act qualifies you as a KOF-- potentially 28 times over-- and as a(n) FFF (what with using your job and all as a position to promote the Marvel Way-!). My goodness, you are an inspiration to us all-! (Surely. . . SURELY. . . everyone is still up on their M.M.M.S. rankings, yes?) HB

The guy did a great job--er-- assembling this. ;D Thanks for posting this, Shiryu. Also, I loved seeing so many panels from Heck's Iron Man and Avengers work--he was a real contributor to early Marvel.

Man--the Black Widow's original costume has to be about the worst costume ever! Didn't she used to have big round ear-rings that had BW on them?

Man--the Black Widow's original costume has to be about the worst costume ever! Didn't she used to have big round ear-rings that had BW on them? That really, really, really rings a Doc Bong-type bell, it does. I think you may be right, 'cause I do remember noticing those ear-rings once, meself. I mean, what Soviet super-spy wouldn't accessorize her working togs w/ ear-rings emblazoned w/ the monogrammed intials of her code-name, eh? (Brother, don't get me started again on the whole absurdity of headlines talking about the fate of that "famous spy", the Black Widow!). Hey, didn't Galactus' first appear with a big letter "G" as his belt-buckle? Very fortunate that the previously-existing universe he hails from had the one planet (his) that developed an alphabet in common w/ our Germanic ones (if I'm categorizing that correctly). ;D HB

There's a lot to dislike about Galactus(s) costumes. Gaudy and ridiculous. Speaking of which, didn't the colors change several times during his ver first appearances?

Hee hee! Yeah in the early/mid 60's most super types felt they had to emblazon their initials on their costumes for some reason! Maybe they thought people were too stupid to know who they were if they didn't give a frikkin' giant clue!
I think Galactus' rather ahhhhhh ornate head dress was straight outta Jack Kirby world! Kirby LOVED those huge protrusions from the head! Look at the mid 60's Thor comics! Both Odin and Hela were infamous for their...horny head pieces! But that's how rumors get started!

I even hit women in action films later in the semester, and plan to talk about the women of Marvel in said area, especially with the influx of comic movies lately. I figure a little healthy movie-plugging is good.

Oh. Wow. In the words of Warner Brother Yakko: "Gooooooodnight Everybody!" (Heck, and an exalt for Shar for an extraordinary piece of illustrative research appropriate to the subject-!) HB (PS-- as it's crossing my mind-- I had the good fortune when I was about 16 or 17 to read Jim Steranko's History of Comics, and I distinctly remember him refering to Jack Kirby's propensity for omitting the male "package", as it were, from his figures. No cod in the cod-piece, so to speak. And here's ol' sexless Loki right here, completely supporting that observation. Yeesh-! Just provin' my own earlier observation about Loki, in fact--! ;D)

Post by humanbelly on Mar 6, 2012 11:09:15 GMT -5
No, no-- JIM STERANKO's saying it!! But heck, he's right-- so I'm goin' right along with him-! (So, yeah, I guess shootin' the messenger is perfectly acceptable here ;D ;D)
Can't. . . say I've ever heard the phrase "barbie-doll crotch"-- but, boy, that does sum it up, doesn't it?
Oh, I imagine there's a whole thesis'-worth of material to be explored in this topic, dating clear back to the golden age. . .

Hee hee! Well, to cut Kirby some slack, artists back then weren't allowed to draw nipples on characters either, so we can call them Barbie Doll chests too, I suppose!
How did this thread go so horribly wrong? And why do I sense that I am largely responsible?

There's a lot to dislike about Galactus(s) costumes. Gaudy and ridiculous. Speaking of which, didn't the colors change several times during his ver first appearances? Y'know, Ultron, I was thinking the same thing-- so I googled images for "Galactus First Appearance", and got a lot of helpful info. Since I don't have those original issues of the FF it's hard to get a fix on what was "real" and what wasn't-- but there are definitely cases where the same image appears with different color schemes. There's G. with the regular purple w/ blue trim; there's G. with blue w/ purple trim (and short sleeves and short pants !!!); and there's G. with a green/orange/brown color scheme. These images look to have come from FF #'s 48-50. Also, the letter "G" is on Galactus' chest, not on his belt-buckle-- my mistake. The green/brown image came from a link to Stan's own blog, and he disussed (or admitted to) the surprisingly haphazard fashion in which that epic was created. He also seemed to be somewhat mortified by Jack's use of an english-alphabet letter on this cosmic being's uniform. Heh. HB

Yeah, you may have initiated this epic detour, but I've been riding an active shotgun, shamelessly pointing you down the wrong trail at every opportunity. Just my unfortunate nature, I suppose. Me n' Loki n' Malvolio--- evil w/out even trying hard. . . HB

I knew someone was controlling my mind!
One year I had a Halloween party and dressed up as Thor. I made these enormous wings for my helmet from angel wings I got from some craptastic arts and crafts store. Anyway as I paraded into the throng of people, one of my majestic helmet wings got caught in the frikkin' ceiling fan, and suddenly the helmet became a deadly projectile, taking my cheap-azz ghetto weave (blonde) with it! Some unfortunate lass was smited by it--but luckily she was close-to sloppy drunk and found the whole thing amusing.
I learned a valuable lesson that night: Ornate head-gear is highly impractical when there are ceiling fans around. Low doorways too.

Y'know, if anyone from Disney clandestinely visits this board, I will be stunned. . . STUNNED. . . if they don't purloin this priceless bit of physical comedy, and insert it into a film. . . or at least one of their DisneyChannel sitcoms (more likely, in fact-- boy, my daughter youtubed several of those to death awhile back. . . ). Man, it is so delightfully clear in my mind's-eye! Ha! Why, it practically storyboards itself. . . ! HB

Ouch, pity. It was a scene by scene summary with some cool things happening. Not that I can complain about that replacement picture they put up ;D
To summarise the article
SPOILER
YEP, STILL SPOILER
- Film opens with Cap being defrosted - Loki controls Clint to steal the Cosmic Cube - Fury and Coulson talk Iron Man into joining a new team. Tony accepts after reading about the Cosmic Cube - Widow elists Banner - Cap and IM fight Loki in Germany and seem to defeat him quite easily - Thor appears, wanting to take Loki back to Asgard. They discuss about their brotherly relationship and Loki says he will no longer stand in Thor's shadow. - Cap and IM think Thor is Loki's ally and we have a good old hero vs hero battle. Thor seems unstoppable but his lightning overcharges IM's armour to 400%. Even that is not enough to take him down, but in the end he agrees to have Loki imprisoned by Shield. - Loki is put in a glass-like cage, apparently designed for the Hulk. He starts playing mind tricks on Banner. It's implied he let the assembled heroes capture him.

I. . . am going to be brave & disciplined, and shan't let my gaze travel down to that list of leaks & spoilers-! (No slight against your intrepid detective work, Shir.) Nope. Other than broad details (Atlanteans? Skrulls? Psilons? Tomorrow People??), I like to catch my events & developments as the director (or editor, quite often) intended to throw them at me. . . . HB

Dunno if its been posted already, as it was only brought to my attention today: but there's a Japanese poster with some more scenes we haven't been given (domestically). Feel bad for Japan though, they don't get the movie till August... themoviebox.net/823
