Poo! Bendis. So "stunning marvel action" means 20 pages of self-congratulatory monologuing, or possibly an illustrated essay about how Bendis is the greatest Avengers writer ever, using Hawkeye as his skinsuit sockpuppet mouthpiece. Pass.

Pass. And you say that why? Not to become the board's Bendis apologist (and I won't since there is the bad with the good I feel he has done), but the lack of balance of evidence to support some assertions is pretty astounding. We don't know what will be in the book yet, nor how it will read.

Pages 5-15, more talking, possibly in a quinjet, or in a villains base. 15-17 two page spread of something pointless, probably big fight scene where everybody is jumping about. 18-20 cliffhanger ending featuring either big explosion or dramatic confrontation or someone apparently dead. Rinse and repeat for five issues, in sixth issue some anticlimactic "ending" probably told via flashback by characters discussing it. He couldn't tell an actual story if he got bitten by a radioactive one. Not that I'm bitter...

Must go back and check New Avengers 1 (both volumes), Mighty Avengers 1 and Avengers 1 to see if this holds up.

Any thoughts on 'Avengers Assemble' #1 now that it is out?

He couldn't tell an actual story if he got bitten by a radioactive one. Not that I'm bitter... Sp Sp SPOILERS! No, really, Spoilers below. Boy do I feel stupid now... Bendis completely proved me wrong. He actually had the villains talking in their base first, in pages 1-3. Then pages 4-5 was the Avengers all sitting around talking and eating, because, y'know, they are required by law to do that every single story. Page 6. The Hulk looks at some army vehicles. Really. A whole page is needed to show us the Hulk, watching some army vehicles. Awesome. Then we get a not too terrible fight scene between the Hulk and one of the tawdry new Zodiac for 6 pages. I can only assume Bagley did all this. Then a couple more pages of talking, then four more pages of talking then the Avengers run away from a Super Villain, coz, that's their thing they are known for, running away. They run from ninjas, run from the Hood, run from Norman Osborn, now they run from the new Zodiac. Then one of the new Zodiac beats up Thor really easily, to show how Badass they are. And that's it. It's actually not as bad as I expected. It's only largely empty, devoid of interest and mainly stupid. I expected it to be completely empty and stupid, and entirely devoid of interest. So it's a below average comic, which is much, much better than the normal Bendis work. There was less talking than usual, and some stuff actually happened. Not much, and it was really quite dull, but still, for a Bendis book it was a hectic action packed masterpiece. I'd give it 4/10.

Isn't the Hulk still the guy who destroyed most of Vegas (and according to conflicting reports from marvel, killed people)and then when exiled for it, came back and destroyed New York? That guy? How the bloody blue hell can a terrorist like the Hulk, who's probably caused trillions of dollars of destruction and would likely be enemy number one of the United States join any Avengers team? I'm bothered when Marvel does this big events like World War Hulk and then decides to ignore the actual effects of them... Oh and this book has absolutely no reason to exist- Bendis isn't doing a single thing in Avengers Assemble that is so special and particular that merits him writing this other Avengers story.
