How do you feel about talentless hack? I repeat: IS HE GONE YET?!!!!!!!!! Well, I feel- oh golly- that it's still not quite, quite, quite an accurate description. Being a talentless hack would almost be more forgivable. And perhaps less sad. I think it may be possible to compare him to William Shatner, of all folks. Like Bill, BMB showed unquestionable talent and charisma early in his career, and had a remarkably quick rise to success and had high acclaim and wide recognition among his fan base. He then seems to have fallen in love with his own legend, lost his muse (without ever being aware of it), and fallen into the practice of relying on earlier innovations as his "bag of tricks", apparently thinking that it would assuredly guarantee his continued success and justify his fame. That can then can spiral to an almost Nixon-esque mindset of, "If I do it, then it must be good." Which is simply the DEATH of any legitimate artist/writer/actor/musician, etc. At some level, BMB MUST realize this is where he's at. He may even be working his behind off, trying to recapture what he knows he's let slip away-- but that's only flailing at this point. I mean-- killing off Peter Parker?? Can any level of desperation justify that? No, he's out of solid original ideas-- possibly has been for years now-- and never had an adequate grasp of the source material (Avengers-wise) to be properly inspired to come up with new ones. Honestly, I feel like he must wake up at night in desperation-- wondering when it's all going to collapse. On a human, professional level, I do feel kind of bad for the situation he's gotten himself into. Mind you, this does pretty much make him a "hack" at this point. At least in my book. But I'd still tend to grant him the "talent". He just doesn't access it anymore. . . Ha! Who says this isn't the Marvel Age of Long-Winded Hair-Splitting, eh? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D HB

Hmm-- I also belatedly recognize that dissing William Shatner on a comic book board is probably not the most sensitive or wisely diplomatic move I've ever made. . . (Hoo-boy. . . "DEATH WISH XVII---- Starring the HumanBelly!!!") HB ;D

How do you feel about talentless hack? I repeat: IS HE GONE YET?!!!!!!!!! Sadly no. It's looking more and more like he'll still be churning out his sub-standard brand of boredom for most of this year. What is cheery news is that he's got all the biggest, best known marvel "properties" in his two (soon to be three) Avengers books, and is still getting outsold by a book about Aquaman month after month. If you can't make books with Spider-Man, Wolverine, Thor, Cap, Iron Man, various Hulks and anyone else you feel like adding sell better than Aquaman, in a year when the biggest movie of the year is possibly going to be called "Avengers", you know the public is tired of you.

Didn't see your response until now, Tom--LOL!!!! But shhhhh--or Bendis will end up putting Aquaman in the Avengers, and will be cheered as an astonishing GENIUS of storytelling!

Bendis taking over was why I left. Bendis leaving is why I'm back. Looking forward to the new guy(s).

Still no word on who's taking over? They must be waiting for the AvX promotion to run it's course.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'll dive right back in. I did that when Slott took over Mighty Avengers. It didn't float my boat.
There are a few writers I will blindly follow to the Comic Shop that very first Wednesday of the new creative team. Hadn't thought of Whedon, but good grief! That would be incredible.
