a quick review of SECRET AVENGERS #17 well, I like #16, but #17 really sucked. Terrible art (I don't EVER remember Sharon Carter having big, sexy, Angelina Jolie lips ). The story sucked too. I hate to be so succinct, but this was just a mess. I would, however, like to hear anyone else's comments/opinions about Secret Avengers. I think it's time to drop this title, it's just a waste of 4 bucks every month.

I think it's time to drop this title, it's just a waste of 4 bucks every month. Ah me-- I might as well just go ahead and make a general confession right here, Foxxx, since you've asked so kindly about one title specifically. I have stopped reading the new books entirely as of about a month or so ago. Never, ever thought the day would come. Never in my life. But I kept putting off the renewals (although, ironically, I think SA has, like 30 more months coming somehow), and then many lapsed, and I found that I just didn't care, and there were faaaaaar more important life issues to put those dollars toward. The titles that I was enjoying? Not available by subscription, and I simply can't look myself in the eye when I pay $4 for a book I'll still read in 10 minutes or less. But I did make a conscious choice, here. I came to a sudden and shockingly clear realization that almost every book I'd been reading for years (Avengers titles, Hulk, FF) made me feel noticeably worse after I'd read it. Angry, betrayed, bored, aggravated, indifferent--- not a single emotion there that I'd associate with a beloved, life-long hobby. I realized that I was letting the books pile up next to the kitchen phone for weeks and weeks, and that really making myself read them was carrying about the same chore-avoidance effort as cleaning out the gutters. And that, my friends, is just crazy. Good heavens-- when is a hobby not a hobby? Why, when it becomes a dreaded chore, of course-! And yet I'm still experiencing an undeniable bit of background grief, even as I appreciate a surprising sense of freedom. Much the way I can still call to mind the delicious taste of a Big Mac, even though it's been, like, six years since I've had one (right off the old dietary list, they are. . . !). I loved them w/out question; recognize that love even now; but have not even a glimmer of temptation to backslide. Ah, it's bittersweet, no-? HB

Scans are the way, my friends. They let you read the entire spectrum of what comes out every week completely for free, and then you can buy and support the books you like and ignore those you don't. It has worked a treat for me in these past several months.
As for SA 17, it sucked. The battle scenes weren't too bad, but it was all just an excuse for England-born Ellis to say he is unhappy with the current British government.
