I'm not really sure what this series is all about, it's a time-displace Iron Man going back to the 1980s, running into 1980s MU heroes/villains. I think #1 is the only issue featuring the Assemblers, but I'm not sure.
Anyhoo, I really liked this issue. Christos Gage wrote the Avengers story (it's a two-story ish with an Iron Man/Capt Britain back-up). It really felt like an 80s Avengers issue, dramatic and fun all at the same time. I like this early 80s line-up with Cap, Shulkie, Monica, Wasp and Starfox. I know there's alot of Eros-hate out there, but I thought Gage handled Starfox just as I remember him. I always thought his "persuasion" powers were pretty cool, when used properly.
I never really liked Lee Weeks' sketchy style, but i think Tom Palmer's inks may have helped, with nice results.
And the Capt Britain back-up was okay. I like a very British take on CB, as seen here. I don't remember him being written very British in the 80s when i was a kid, but my memory may be fuzzy. And the art and colors were nice too.
I would recommend this to Avengers fans who liked the 80s Avengers stuff. Stories that i consider REAL Avengers stories are few and far-between these days, but this is good. The $4.99 price tag is too much, though.
This issue is also kind of a tease, IMHO. I like Avengers Academy, but i think it's time for C. Gage to step up and write the REAL Avengers.
