I'm not sure if anyone started a thread about Kick-a$$, but i finally saw the movie, and it blew me away. Having already read the comics, i was surprised how much i enjoyed this, as the comic was pretty good, but the movie was FANTASTIC, IMHO. I'm not a big Romita JR fan, so maybe that's why. I was also surprised that the violence wasn't overdone (compared to say, KILL BILL). And no drawn out scenes, i was never bored, even while knowing the outcome, etc.... The pace, the action (duh), the soundtrack---everything worked for me. And Nicolas Cage has redeemed himself for me, his body of work was top-notch until the mid-90's, when he started showing up in Hollywood turds like THE ROCK,CON AIR, FACE OFF..... but he is perfect in Kick-A$$. And McLovin's RED MIST probably saved his career, very nice perf. Of course, the little girl steals the show (duh again). Dare i say, it ranks among my favorite movies. And the first ULTIMATES movie ranks as one of my top animated features. I guess i love Millar's theatrical flair; it's an aspect of his comic book writing that i've really grown to appreciate. And this screenplay treatment doesn't ignore what makes great comics work---the villain's grand scheme, the hero's overcoming his weaknesses and mistakes, the humor. I loved it. TWO THUMBS UP, highly recommended ---but not for the squeamish.
