New title with Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato! I'M SO EXCITED! Here's three reasons why: 1) I've loved the name "Secret Avengers" since it was first spoken in Civil War 2) Ed Brubaker on Avengers is something I've wanted for a billion years! 3) Mike Deodato is awesome! www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24750

Well, so much for a be-all, end-all, streamlined AVENGERS team.......
but at least Bendis isn't writing it, so I'm hoping for a "west coast avengers" type team... and I'm interested in seeing what Brubaker comes up with. After all, he wrote Avengers-y team-ups pretty well in Cap:Reborn.

What if it's... Taskmaster? Given what's happening in Initiative, that line made me think about him.

That is a good guess.
But hasn't the Taskmaster been an enemy to the Avengers for years.

I would so rather it was the Shroud. The Avengers have so few good villains (quick- name fifteen excellent Avengers villains, and it should exclude Loki who's really just a Thor villain that gets ambitious...) it really would be nice to keep Taskmaster on that side of the fence. Shroud is an incredibly interesting character who's been posing as a crime boss for years. Maybe he wants to clean up his name?

Could also be the Sentry.

(quick- name fifteen excellent Avengers villains, and it should exclude Loki who's really just a Thor villain that gets ambitious...) The Zodiac (12), Ultron, Doom, Nefaria ;D I didn't know about the Shroud posing as crime boss, it could be him then, but there is something in the borders of that cape that makes me think to Taskmaster (and someone on Newsarama pointed out that the first teaser could be Constrictor). Then again, it all depends on who's drawing. I'm kind of hoping he will die in Siege, but you are right that it's certainly a possibility, although with a change in costume as this picture seems to have a hood together with the cape. Going down the "new costume" route, Penance is also possible I suppose.

I would really prefer to not see yet another villainous Avenger team after Dark Avengers, although since I'm not the biggest Brubaker fan I probably won't be buying it unless it knocks my socks off anyway.

I'm guessing the first one is Beast, and the second could very much be Moon Knight, especially since the new one talks about Vengeance and his current book is "Vengeance of Moon Knight" or whatever (I haven't read it, lol).

Beast would be a viable option since he was recently removed from the X-books.

The folks at comics alliance seem to think they might be breaking up Agents of Atlas and Gorilla Man might be getting the nod to sign on to Secret Avengers. Also it appears that Luke Cage will be leading the Thunderbolts now, so if it's a group of reformed villains and heroes in Secret Avengers it's pretty much gonna be an overdone theme, to me anyway... www.comicsalliance.com/2010/02/09/luke-cage-leads-a-new-crop-of-thunderbolts-this-may/

Another one A girl with a cape, who do we know with such costume? Wanda is the only one I can think about off the top of my head.

Maybe it is the Scarlet Witch.
And if it is my guess is that the X-MEN won't like it cause they are still mad at Wanda for getting rid of alot of mutants at the end of House of M.

Well I just read how Brubaker envisions this to be an espionage book, so I'm already losing any interest I had in the title. To me, his Cap is a dull plodding mess. I'm also envisioning a lot "grittier" and lesser known characters, likely villains to be assorted in this cast. Hope he proves me wrong on all counts... i would like to enjoy an Avengers title for the next few years. www.newsarama.com/comics/secret-avengers-ed-brubaker-100209.html

Hope he proves me wrong on all counts... i would like to enjoy an Avengers title for the next few years. I agree. I know there are a lot of huge Brubaker fans on this board but, while I put him leaps and bounds ahead of Bendis (Okay, I'd put Fred Hembeck leaps and bounds ahead of Bendis- hypnotic knees and all, but you get my point) he has failed to overwhelm me. I've seen more than enough grit. I don't want all the stories to be light-hearted and do want some heavy plots but I want that heaviness to be tempered by some fun as well. I have found Brubaker's work to be draggy and not particularly fun to read even though he does seem to have a pretty good grasp on overall storytelling and characterization. Unless the characters are so out there that they don't feel like Avengers to me at all (Wolverine, Sentry, Ares), I do plan to give this one a go. Like you, I want to enjoy an Avengers book. I really, really, really, really, really want to enjoy an Avengers book. Really.

I haven't seen him since Civil War, so I'm not up-to-date. Is he in need of redemption? If it's him, then the girl could be Dagger (with a cape).

Someone in armor (we can tell from the shape of head and forearms). War Machine? American Son?

The image also makes me think of Valkyrie but she has no real history with the Avengers. Not to be indelicate, but the silhouette does seem to be particularly buxom (even by Marvel's standards), and there have been a few subtle references over the years that that indeed applies to Wanda's figure (and she's generally portrayed as such). Not really a "Wanda" stance, though, eh? What's going on with her left leg? How exactly does it connect to her body? I LIKE the Valkyrie idea, though. And I think we've touched on her as a possibility awhile back. Got the whole "god" thing going on, AND she's established character (although, geeze, she's been the Enchantress, Barbera Norris, her own Asgardian self, and I think even someone else more recently (according to her Heroscape card). Heavy belt, though. Wow-- what about Storm? That would be a kick. HB

I'm thinking that the Secret Avengers could be like black ops team for the Avengers.
Just like how X-Force is for Cyclops.

This is only tangentially related, but I didn't see any mention of this; not sure how it slipped through the cracks. But earlier this week, Marvel announced that Luke Cage will be leading a new team of Thunderbolts after the reboot: www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24771Consisting of Moonstone, Crossbones, Ghost, Juggernaut and Man-Thing. So it looks as though Cage won't be on the Avengers after the relaunch, unless he's doing the magic Wolverine double duty.

Heck, has he even been active? How in the world did he get on the Raft? Was Marvel about to lose copyright on him? How. . . how does a thing that doesn't even think at all fit into a precision team environment?? (Boy, I wonder if poor ol' Ted Sallis is still buried in there somewhere? You wanna talk your tragic circumstances--- Bruce Banner's livin' in gravy compared to Ted. . . ). Juggernaut's a great choice, I think. Historically a serious villain who has accrued a surprising amount of humanity. Crossbones--- geeze, hasn't he killed a bajillion innocent folks? How can he be in the program when Abe was dragged through hell for the unintended death of another super villain? Moonstone, sure-- sooner or later she actually WILL find the emotional fortitude to unresignedly commit to being on the side of the angels. Man, what happened to Karla in her formative years? Aaaaand Ghost is someone I have no knowledge of. I think. . . I think I'll spring for a subscription to this book. I used to love Thunderbolts, and just never picked it back up after its first cancellation. And I've always thought of it as a "companion" book to the Avengers. HB

Ghost is part of Red Skull's team, he appeared in Captain America: Reborn. But I have to say I'm not very familiar with him either outside of that series.
