This place is a virtual ghost town. There are some exciting things other than Bendis happening in the land of Avenging, but it just seems that no one here is interested. Is it just that so many are fed up with Marvel? The pricing? Time? Whatever it is, it's crippling the frequency of posting at this site. I feel like the living embodiment of the days when Jan, Hank and Clint were the only ones who showed up at the mansion...

Time I'm enjoying a fair few of the books that come out (MA, Initiative, Thunderbolts, Amazing SM, Thor, Siege and some related one-shots) but there is just so little time for commenting, and so little activity in most areas of the boards which doesn't help either. But I'll try to make more of an effort over the next few weeks.

I don't post because every thread needs to contain the obligatory "I HATE BENDIS AND MARVEL QUESADA AND MILLAR AND EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT RIGHT" post that immediately just kills this place for me. That sheer negativity just keeps me away, and has for a while. It's not personal. I just can't talk about what I like without hearing it bashed and put-down. It's depressing and not worth the time. So I don't even bother writing how excited I am about comics. It's not worth it.

So I don't even bother writing how excited I am about comics. It's not worth it. Ohhh, I don't know if it's every post, W. Sharkar and I, for example, tend to go on at great length about all kinds of minutia from days gone by, and artists, and what not. And, man, you know I'm always ready to defend the Hulk to any brave listeners! There have been some neat story ideas batted around (oddly enough, centered around Thor). But to be fair, yep, we do tend to hammer away at what we don't like about the artistic direction of recent years, so for folks who are thoroughly engaged with it, such as yourself, it's understandable that the tone on this board would be really off-putting. I imagine it would be tough to maintain a non-flaming presence under those circumstances. Heck, be proud to be the reasoned, respectful voice of the opposition, as it were. While I mightn't share your opinion of what constitutes good comics work, I would be loathe to tell you that you're wrong for enjoying what you enjoy. And- oh wow- I believe you were just the recipient of my 400th post! Cripes, and it hasn't been even quite a year yet. . . HB

I'm not buying comic books currently, so very often I don't know enough about stuff to comment, but I do try to post whenever some episode from the past is being discussed. And I do follow with interest most previews here (except the ones about the Ultimate Universe, which I don't care about) as well as other people's comments of what's going on.

If more current Marvel books were handled like Guardians of the Galaxy currently is.....I'd be reading a lot more comics.
Gof G is fun, action-packed, usually can be enjoyed as stand alone issues, isn't tied down as "crossover" material that requires one to buy a bunch of other titles, ties into MU history without ret-conning everything, and costs the Marvel minimum $2.99....It's the the best Marvel has to offer right now, IMHO.
I also enjoyed "Old Man Logan", the Hulk/Defenders arc, most Avengers:Initiative issues, and some of the Mighty Avengers stuff. But it's sad I have no inclination to pick up a current random Spidey book, or Captain America, X-men, NewMutants, DD, or Thor....mostly because IMO they have bad art, cost $4-5, they are ALWAYS part of a multi-issue arc, or i leaf through an issue and they frankly are just garbage. In the 80's i would pick up any mainsteam MU title just for the COVER....and usually was pleasantly surprised. Things done changed.

Foxy--not sure if you saw my post from a few weeks ago, but I absolutely LOVE The Guardians of the Galaxy! I never paid it any attention until you recommended the title--mainly because I had never developed any attachment to the group back in the day, plus I saw the talking raccoon and thought it was dumb--but I bought it based on your recommendation. I love it! It is the funniest comic ever made IMO, and Rocket Raccoon is my favorite character! Shows how much I knew! So far I only have the paperback collection where they fight the Inhumans and the old Guardians of the Galaxy, but I plan on following the series now. I don't know the writer's name off the top of my head, but he is definitely channeling the ghost of Star Wars in regards to fun, fast pacing and humor! And being old school, I certainly got the reference to "Starlin's." Thanks for the tip!
ROCKET RACCOON FOR PRESIDENT!
Now that I am infused with positivity and fluffiness, I am also LOVING Doom War. Finally my beloved Black Panther is on the A List. Looks like they have upped the Panther's abilities (it is about time--virtually every other Avenger has had his/her power level raised over the years) and brought on board a great writer. Both Doom War and BP are awesome titles now.
I'm off to ride my fluffy pink winged unicorn now! Over the nearest rainbow!

Also--one mo' thang--the new Black Widow series is very good too. It is reminiscent of the Miller era Daredevil. Is Marvel now reaching out to new writers or something?

Hey bobc, glad you like it!
It's the one current Marvel book that harkens back to what made the 70's-80's comics fun, which is why anyone who read comics back then (or likes old comics) should check it out.
My question is, if the readers my age (mid-30s) with the disposable income and the love of nostalgia are a part of the fan-base, why aren't they producing more titles like GofG to satisfy the fans? Getting back to the initial question, yes, I am fed up with Marvel/Quesada just NOT GETTING IT, and not delivering what I will certainly spend my hard-earned money on. I'm not an idiot- and I will only buy what I deem as QUALITY.

You know Foxy I don't really see GOTG as being retro exactly--I see it more as a fun homage to Star Wars and Sci Fi related older comics.

That's the exact reason i don't go to jinxworld or avengersforever.org, because you can't really kibbitz about what you don't like. There are plenty of bandwagon forums. I think the crowd here skews older, tends to like a different storytelling model and sadly, have less time to spend online. Still I would like to see some of the gang here if only to talk about the good stuff, like Hank Pym's continued survival and a storyline that might provide possible redemption for Scarlet Witch. That's not Bendis bashing, that's celebrating the stuff that I look forward to.

Well, I'm guilty of finishing up my Bachelor's Degree, lol. I read my weekly comics and check in on the site for the most part two or three times a week, but fail to post too much. I'm going to try and change that, though.
And I think that with the upcoming heroic age and the ability to read the upcoming Avengers stuff versus speculating over it will boost the board a bit.
I do have to say though, and agree with above, that the new Black Widow series seems to be off to a great start.
Also, on a personal note, I made off like a bandit last weekend with comics. Stop by some little swap meet outside a mall, ran into couple guys selling a bunch of comics, and walked out with 52 books for $50. Two of which were Iron Man #18 (complete with Avengers floating heads!) and Journey Into Mystery Annual #1, 1965. Thor versus Hercules is always worth a shot.
The rest of the pickups were mostly Thor, Iron Man, and Cap issues from the late seventies-early 1980s.
