hello every one. i just started reading the solo avengers and noticed i didn't have #14, but i just do not want to spend the money on this book. can someone tell me what happend. thanks so much!! Okay, okay, okay-- if no one else has gotten back to you by tonight, I promise- I PROMISE- I'll go down to our comic book room, shift all those daggone long-boxes around on their shelves (oy, my back!), and pull that issue out and take a look at it. Quick thoughts: Al Milgrom was the regular penciller for the Hawkeye half of the series (which was more like "Hawkeye Team-Up" than a solo Hawkeye series) for quite awhile, and I do remember just not being drawn in by him at all, in spite of my fondness for ol' Clint. What's your take on that? I notice on Mile High's website that this issue is noticably pricier than the ones around it ('cause, boy, they're pretty much as affordable as one ever finds!). I'm guessing. . . it's because of the Alan Davis art for the She-Hulk co-feature? Or is there a story element that sets it apart? The fact that you're asking about it could suggest that something's going on that has sparked more than a passing interest for you. Okey-doke-- clock's ticking--- HB

Oh. Wow.
And now we see why this issue has such a (relatively) large boost in price.
I checked out my inventory list before digging into the boxes (to figure out where Avengers Spotlight was), and immediately saw that the only issue I was missing in the entire run was. . . #14. And then I remembered that I'd been a subscriber, and this was one of those issues that just never came-- which used to be a LARGE problem with their service. But I kind of forgot about it, 'cause the title never resonated that strongly with me. Still, it remains a surprising hole in my collection, and now I'm gonna have to fill it at some point. Sheesh.
Boy, I wonder what happened? Maybe they never got it to the postal distributer or something? Well--- it IS available from Mile High Comics, should any of us ever get the inspiration. . .

I have this issue somewhere, I'll dig it out when I have a chance and try to solve the mystery.

Actually, the "mystery" (of the issue's contents) has already been solved ; click on the links (the second set in particular) that I included in my earlier post. Milgrom art at its finest!

I must be in the minority because I have this issue, lol. And I found another copy of it for a $1 at a blowout sale at the comic shop I frequent. Didn't pick it up though, probably should have.

Oh, I daresay you probably made the right choice. I quickly read through it via the website that Sharkar provided, and I imagine one copy of this book in anyone's collection is juuuuuuust plenty. I remembered (correctly) having the impression that ol' Al Milgrom's art really dragged this book down. I'd forgotten, however, that Tom DeFalco was the writer-- and he's never been one of my favorites at all. I generally found his plotting and scripting to be somewhat on the shallow/contrived/cheesy side (if that is indeed all on one side?) much of the time. Much more suited to DC books of the 60's, perhaps. I kind of hate being so bluntly critical of them, 'cause I always had the impression they were both personally well-liked amongst their bullpen peers (LOTS of good-natured ribbing aimed at DeFalco during his editorial reign, I might point out.). But, boy, I think it was, like, a reverse gestalt on this title. HB

Daggone it, I was a subscriber, and they clearly sent you my issue by mistake. . . Now, Fox, I don't mean to be petty or anything, but I must insist that you send me that falsely-obtained copy right away. It is the proper and just thing to do. There's no sense in ignoring the dictates of your conscience--- just do what's right, and have done with it. I have no doubt that all here are in complete agreement. . . . Just thinkin' about what's best for society- HB

Just thinkin' about what's best for society- HB *sigh* Well, Starfoxxx, I tried to give ya every benefit of the doubt imaginable--- but after 18 long months, it became clear that you weren't going to volunteer your ill-obtained surplus copy of this issue. . . . SO, I went ahead and snagged it during that same sale from Mile High (for, like, 85 cents, I think). Oooooooooh, it must be difficult for you to sleep at night, I have no doubt-! The guilt! The guilt! ;D ;D Wow, what a not-good story on the Hawkeye side. Everything mentioned above was simply reinforced with the book physically in hand. This could have sneaked right into one of drew's early Tales of Suspense or Strange Tales posts--- except that the art isn't really even as good. . . HB
