Kicking things off with a very simple, overall question.
For the Jarvis Awards this year, we can simply discuss what we felt our favorite comics, characters, and moments were (and least favorite).
At some point, maybe we can create a poll using the "nominees" that appear to have the most support in each category.

I gave this year's crop of books a mediocre score. Personally, I feel that both Marvel and DC have become too 'event' oriented, and this impacts the entire line. For the most part, DC has failed to capture my interest this year, and Marvel has continued to disappoint me with time-wasters like Secret Invasion. However, there have been books I've enjoyed, like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers Initiative, and Nova. I'm looking forward to the Agents of Atlas series coming next year, as well as Mighty Avengers. I didn't pick up a lot of independents this year, but Walking Dead always makes my list.

I voted for a mediocre year, mostly because alot of the books I purchased were disappointing, but I also was turned onto some new titles. Disappointments: 1985, Secret Invasion, New and Mighty Avengers, Ultimates 3, Incredible Hercules, Last Defenders, Thor, Avengers/Invaders Favorites: Guardians of the Galaxy, Millar's F.F. and Wolverine, Perez on Legion of 3 Worlds, JLA (better than it's shaky start), Avengers:Initiative (also getting better) Surprises: Marvel Zombies 3 ;D, Capt. Britain &MI13, Hulk, Captain America, Favorite moments: Logan and Hawkeye cruising in the Spider-mobile, the last page surprises in Millar's F.F. run, the Lady Liberators, the return of Rocket Racoon, and Perez' art. ;D Least Favorite Moments: no Avengers in Avengers books, Secret Invasion as a whole, and Loeb insinuating incest between Wanda and Pietro In 2009, I'm mostly excited about Slott's Mighty Avengers, the conclusion to Legion of 3 Worlds, and Millar's possible return to the Ultimates.

I had to go with poor. This is the first year I've ever truly considering quitting buying comics completely. Week after week I bought less and less new titles but just kept hoping for some quality. It did come but I would have to approximate that I really only enjoyed about 10% of what I bought. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dan Slott is my last hope. If he can't turn it around, I'll just use my comic budget to buy back issues from when the books were good. I know we talked about Marvel Chronicles in another thread. I bought it and think it is great, however, as I went through I noticed how excited I got by the entries from 60s - 80s. I was constantly going "Oh yeah, there's where so and and so was introduced." or "That was a great moment or story." By the 90s, that still happened a good many times but less frequently. By the 2000s, I was doing more eye rolling than having happy memories. It was more like "Oh brother, that's when they did that" or just flipping past page after page quickly because there was nothing of interest there. I think 2008 has hit rock bottom so I'm hoping that there's nowhere to go but up.

For me, it was mediocre. There were some disappointments, but also some pretty good titles that I really enjoyed. To put it down like Starfoxxx did, it would be Disappointments: Thor, Secret Invasion, War World Hulk, MA, NA, One more day Favorites: Spider-Girl (I can't believe they are closing it!! ), Incredible Hercules, Superman & Batman, Initiative Surprises: American Dream, Marvel Zombies, Avengers/Invaders, to some extent Cap and Brand new day, some one shots like Thor, the truth in history. So overall I still think the era just before Heroes Reborn was worst than this, with clones and weird art in most books. The main thing I would really change is this "event after event after event" trend, which is getting tiring to follow.
