Doom's Decompression:
General Ross is told that the heroes are down and there are some crazy civilians who think the Hulk is a hero. Ross reflects that they never learn, and remembers when Hulk was pardoned for saving the world- they made a statue of him, and then he went mad, tore through New York and had to be banished by Doctor Strange. He recalls that people made excuses for him then, even him- and what did that lead to? Now Ross's daughter is dead, and Hulk's come back demanding the evacuation of Manhattan and threatening to kill the planet's biggest heroes- the same people who built the statue for him.
Ross says- these guys think Hulk's a hero? Fine, they're sending him a brand NEW ten ton adamantium tribute, and he hopes Hulk chokes on it. The helicoptors pump Hulk absolutely full of adamantium. Soldiers get Rick Jones and the civilians away and then pour on their adamantium missiles at the enraged Hulk. Elsewhere, Doctor Strange manages to force his way into Hulk's mind. Hulk recovers enough to destroy the first helicoptor, but then he is dragged forcibly to the astral plane.
Strange is in Hulk's mind, and they appear to be on Sakaar. Strange tries to soothe Hulk, as on Earth Ross's forces POUR everything into Hulk. As Hulk threatens Strange, Strange goes massive and cosmic, telling him that he is the SORCEROR SUPREME and could snuff out Hulk's life with ease... then he shrinks down to normal siz and tells him "But I am also your friend." He asks Bruce to let him help him- to show him his true face.
Hulk freezes. "That's what she said..." he whispers, and then slowly transforms back down into Banner. Strange asks about her, and Bruce sees Caiera again, talking about her a bit- they both see the explosion that stole her life. Strange tells him they NEVER set the bomb, they weren't responsible for the explosion. He goes to "normal" form instead of astral and asks Bruce to look at him and tell him he's lying. He tells Bruce he's always been his friend and always will be.
Banner is now calm and appears to be crying. Strange wants to bring him back to the real world and takes Bruce by the hands to help him up. "I've got you." Bruce pauses. "Yeah..." he says. "And I've... got... you..." Strange's face tautens as a shadow looms over him.
Bruce transforms into Hulk and crushes Strange's hands completely. In the real world, Strange is hurtled backwards and out of Bruce's mind. He tells Hulk he was trying to yhelp- Hulk says he's helped enough. Back in NYC, the helicoptors are still pouring on the adamantium rounds as Hulk is shielded by the shields of the warbound- but now Hulk is back in his own mind!
He decimates the tanks and helicoptors- completely destroys them all, though the people in them live. Then he claps his hand, sending all the soldiers and the people who escaped the tanks and coptors unconscious. Ross fires at him with a machine gun saying "WHy wo't you die already?" Hulk leaps up and grabs him and they both plummet towards the city below as Ross fires into Hulk's eyes with his pistrols from like a foot away, and cries "Smash all you want! But we'll just keep coming... until someday, we finally... KILL YOU!" Then they crash down to the city scape below.
In washington, the president is told there's just one option left- the Sentry. Nukes will just make Hulk stronger. The president is given a script to appeal to Sentry. (Throughout this, we see Reed and Tony in chains and cages with obedience disks on their chests, and all the other broken heroes Hulk has beaten tied to poles with obedience disks as well, and Strange trying to heal his hands in his Sanctum) The president tries to persuade Sentry, who says nothing. Eventually, he goes off the script and appeals flat-out. Nothing. He then eloquently sums up the situation in the words: "We're $%#@ed"
A day later, Manhattan. All the soldiers, including Ross, have been captured and are being held by Hulk's warriors as Manhattan smokes, and a great tearing noise sounds. At Madison Square Garden, the Hulk has gathered his Warbound- it seems they plan to use MGS as their great arena. Korg warns Hulk that the Illuminati deserve what they got- but they should go. The whole planet knows what they did, they're the monsters now, and if they walked away... but in reply, Hulk just points to the insane Hulk groupies, and says "Listen to them, Korg. They get it: Never stop making them pay."
Outside Doctor Strange's Sanctum, Rick Jones tries to get in- but he's been tracked by the Warbound. Hiroim shatters the illusions around it with the strength of the Shadow Elders. Iron Fist, Ronin and Echo charge out to fight- Iron Fist actually hurts Hiroim, while Elloe crushes the other two. Hiroim then defeats Iron Fist with ease. Even as Rick tries to persuade them not to, they implant the three captured heroes with obedience disks and take them back to the arena. Rick tells Hiroim that what they're doing is wrong, Hiroim replies that of course it is, and some day they will all pay for it. But for now, they'll make the humans pay.
Strange cannot cast any spells with his broken hands, and reflects that Hulk is really going to kill them all this time. He says there's only one last ditch plan, and warns Wong to run. He then summons the spirit of the infernal demon Zom unto himself just as Hiroim storms into the room.
At Madison Square Garden, Hulk is sitting looking flat out demonic himself on a makeshift throne as Rick tires to reason with him. But Miek grows enraged and tells Rick there is no justice. He recants what has happened to his race, and points out that Hulk is the Worldbreaker. He is about to kill Miek, with Hulk watching on calmly, when Hiroim's body crashes to the ground before them.
"Not just yet..." says a voice. "First..."
And then Doctor Strange descends, now GIANT, aflame like the freaking Human Torch and with MACES FOR HANDS, looking more demon than man, and says "STRANGE SMASH!"
End issue.
Thoughts coming very soon!
