It was mentioned in the preview catalogues, now it's confirmed. From Newsarama: NRAMA: Wrapping up for this week Joe, we're starting to see glimpses of what the Marvel Universe is going to look like following Civil War. One thing that's still hanging out there - Dan Slott's book. Can you finally say what it is going to be and what it's about? JQ: I'm not going to go into detail, but it's called Avengers: The Initiative. So there ya go. A new Avengers project. My bet is it's a 50 STates Initative thing unrelated to the New Avengers OR the classic Avengers. The good thing? Dan Slott is actually a great writer. The art is by the fellow who drew Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways. While it didn’t keep me away from that series, I think the art style is a downside, at least for a traditional superhero comic.
I’m not sure, but it sounds like the book concept has a team of core Avengers (War Machine, Yellowjacket, Justice, and maybe newbie Gauntlet) with what might be a revolving door of characters chosen for specific missions—a sort of fusion of the traditional Avengers concept and the traditional Defenders non-team concept. If so, I hope the revolving-door characters aren’t named to the official Avengers roster—although it’s large already and contains some questionable choices, I prefer to not see it bloat rapidly.
I wonder who will lead this team. Yellowjacket (assuming this is Hank Pym) has led the Avengers before. I don’t know the latest dealings with War Machine (assuming this is Jim Rhodes), but he might be a good choice for team leader, now that he’s built up some experience (he recently led the Sentinel Squad for the O*N*E).

Color me intrigued by this series, and that's not just because of the premise, either. I've loved all of Slott's stuff I've seen from Marvel, and the art is actually right up my alley.
