I got up this morning, was off work, didn't have class, and had "Civil War" on the brain. Therefore, I did something that crosses the nerdy line.
I compiled a nearly-complete list of every character to appear in "Civil War." I went through every issue, identified who I could. Those I couldn't, I used the "Civil War Files" one-shot to help fill in the gaps. However, I'm still having some difficulty with Typeface and Battlestar's group from "Civil War: Frontline" and Vienna's group from "Heroes for Hire" # 1.
But anyways, here's who we have so far:
Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Sentry, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Yellowjacket, Wasp, Ms. Marvel, Hercules, Black Panther, Falcon, Tigra, Silverclaw, Wonder Man, Living Lightning, Firebird, Triathlon
Fantastic Four: Mr. Fantastic, Thing, Human Torch, Invisible Woman
New Warriors: Namorita, Night Thrasher, Speedball, Microbe, Hindsight Land, Justice, Firestar, Slapstick, Ultra Girl, Rage, Timeslip, Debrii, Aegis, Silhouette

Nextwave: Monica Rambeau, X-51
Young Avengers: Patriot, Wiccan, Hulkling, Hawkeye II, Stature, Speed, Vision
Runaways: Nico Minoru, Chase Stein, Molly Hayes, Victor Mancha, Karolina Dean, Xavin, Old Lace
Heroes for Hire: Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Humbug, Shang-Chi, Tarantula, Black Cat, Paladin, Orca
Non-Affiliated: Cloak, Dagger, Daredevil/Iron Fist, Typeface, Solo, Thunderclap, Bantam, Goliath (Bill Foster), Battlestar, Prodigy, Prowler, Arachne (Spider-Woman II), Shroud, Arana, Network, Coldblood
Thunderbolts: Baron Zemo, Songbird, MACH IV, Fixer, Radioactive Man, Atlas, Joystick, Smuggler, Swordsman, Blizzard
Thunderbolts 2: Beetles (1-3), Bullseye, Lady Deathstrike, Venom II, Jack O’Lantern, Mongoose, Ironclad, X-Ray, Unicorn, King Cobra, Doctor Octopus, Bushmaster, Rattler, Backlash, Whiplash, Iron Maiden, Bloodstrike, Boomerang, Coronary, Death Adder, Eel, Killer Shrike, Machete, Over Mind, Ox, Porcupine, Pretty Persuasion, Quicksand, Primus, Red Ronin, Seyde, Smiling Tiger, Smuggler, Snake Marston, Tatterdemalion, Texas Twister, Vapor, Victor, Vermin, Whirlwind, Zaran
X-Men: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Beast, Archangel, Iceman, Wolverine, Shadowcat, Colossus, Marvel Girl II, Storm, Bishop
X-Men Affiliates: Cable, Deadpool, Forge, Sabra, Micromax
X-Men 198: Caliban, Domino, Shatterstar, Fever Pitch, Outlaw, Collective Man, Erg, Leech, Lorelei, Magma, Empath, Mammomax, Peepers, Scalphunter, Scrambler, Toad, Johnny Dee
X-Factor: Madrox, Guido, Quicksilver, Layla Millar, M, Richtor, Syrin, Wolfsbane

Wow. That was nerdy of you. I guess this truly is a company-wide crossover.
I still feel like they're stealing $4 from me every month. But how dumb am I?
You see, that's the problem with being a Chicago Cubs fan -- you just keep coming back for more, hoping with all hope that it will get better. It's a sickness, really...

I have a friend we used to call "Trivia Eater Lad" because he knew everything you could think of about 60's era DC. And Kirk Classic Star Trek.
I now bestow the title on you. May you wear it proudly.

And I, Night Phantom, wish you were Marvel's Editor-in-Chief.... Thank you, that’s very kind. But I wouldn’t want the aggravation. But worry not: at this point I’d guess we could get a trained monkey to fill the role…

Stories and art are quality. You might be thinking of Jim Shooter . . . I don’t know about the sales or the profitability (which are important in making it possible for me to read new Marvel comics but are utterly irrelevant in making it desirable) or how they compare to other eras, but as for the stories and art…there is good work being done under Quesada’s régime, but I think overall there was higher quality-consistency in the Shooter era, the Lee era, and probably some others (I usually don’t analyze these matters in these terms). While I wouldn’t say everything Quesada says or thinks or does is wrong (sometimes I think he’s right, just as I sometimes agree with the actions of monkeys), I think he too often takes a specious approach to comics. (For example, he has justified some decisions on the basis that they work for film and standard magazines; and while it’s fine to examine other media for ideas, I believe he ignores vital differences between comics and other media when making those decisions.) Furthermore, the interviews and panel reports I’ve read give me the impression that he frequently engages in the verbal equivalent of flinging his own feces.

By the way, W, I was looking at Civil War #4 again and spotted a few characters to add to your list. In the second panel of story-page 15 (the one that begins the scene at “Secret Avengers” HQ), several characters appear. On the upper level, to the left it looks like we have Silhouette (formerly of the New Warriors) and the Living Lightning (Avengers); on the right, Firebird (Avengers/Rangers…hey, where are the Rangers in all this?), and Triathlon (Avengers). On the lower level, in the background on the right, are former Avengers and current Nextwave members Pulsar and Machine Man (or whatever they call themselves these days).

I completely glossed that page over. As far as the EiC arguement, I appreciate your explanation. That being said, I find myself siding more on the side of Joe Q. I think he's shaken things up after the fallout of Bob Harras' reign and really turned the company around sales and creative wise. ~W~

AMAZING to put this list together. Anyway, I think i saw a few misses (Did you miss She-Hulk or is that just me?) among a few things, including the Tbolts army, but still astonishing jopb. I'd recommend cross-referencing against en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_civil_war which also has a huge list of characters (plus what side they're on) Thanks for your hard work.

You might be thinking of Jim Shooter . . . ~W~ Man, you can't be serious... Marvel was selling way better under Jim Shooter (the average book was selling more than NA) and as for quality, we had definitive runs in so many titles that now I don´t even have the time to list them all...

This is going to sound like a strange complaint, but is anyone wondering why we haven't seen Ghost Rider or Ka-Zar in this? Granted, I know they're not A-Listers, but they're firmly on the B-List.
It would have been cool to see a seperate prison in the Savage Land in the middle of a T-Rex hunting ground. Wishful thinking, though.
But hey, you know, as long as we're incluing the whole MU, why not these guys?

Their parents don't even know about their secret identities. I can't believe Civil War wouldn't have outed them.

Well, from what I understand, the current "Power Pack" is out all out of continunity. I think one of the members is due to be a part of the "Excelsior" on-going coming out sometime next year. From what I recall, the aftermath of "Civil War" is supposed to have an impact on that book. ~W~

In the mainstream Marvel Universe, Julie Power was shown to be a member of Excelsior in the early issues of the second/current volume of Runaways. Excelsior is being renamed (I’ve heard it’s because of “Excelsior” trademark issues with Stan Lee, but I’m not sure if that reason is true), and the series will use the new name Loners.
