Discuss this perspective: I would prefer to read Marvels, generally speaking, from pre-1986. I would prefer to read DC's, generally speaking, from post-1986 (after Dark Knight and Crisis). Of course there are "exceptional exceptions" to those statements, but again -- in general. Interesting dlw; I would tend to agree with this. I started writing out a long-winded answer, but the basic reason for me is: since the 80's, DC has become more like the Marvel I once knew and loved! The DCU has cohesion, and the heroes have distinct personalities, and there is a respect for the past. Meanwhile, Marvel seems to be floundering in endless expansions of the X-Universe, forgeting the things that made so many of their characters great and going for whatever is the flavor of the month. Maybe I am biased since I grew up as a Marvelite (I only started looking at DC's when I was in my early teens - right around the time New Teen Titans hit), or maybe it's just a function of age. But Marvel books today just don't "feel" right.

Because the Phantom will demand it (he's such a detail-guy!!), here is a brief explanation of my posit:
Marvel by 1986: Claremont/Byrne X-Men, Miller Daredevil, Perez Avengers, Perez FF, Byrne FF -- all over or almost over. If that wasn't the whatever-metal-comes-after-bronze age, then I don't know what was.
DC after 1986: Perez Wonder Woman, Byrne Superman, Miller/Mazzuchelli Batman, Grell Green Arrow, etc. Wow...

So, given the high-water marks I (IMO, of course) cited -- what will be the "golden age" for this generation? Here's where you young'uns get to chime into the conversation!
We've often spoken of what writer or artist typifies a given team/character in our mind's eye. Curt Swan on Superman, the aforementioned Mike Grell on the Legion or Green Arrow, Perez and/or Buscema on the Avengers, anyone inked by Joe Sinnott on FF... for you out there who started reading comics in the early '90's or beyond, who is memorable in a warm, smiley way for you?
