In just two months time, the world will begin to discover what Marvel Comics fans have known for years - Iron Man kicks some serious ass. Combining the talents of director Jon Favreau with Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Sam Jackson, Marvel's first 2008 feature film is poised to do one hell of a job kicking off the summer blockbuster season.
While we're all looking forward to the juggernauts hitting the big screen, there are some major events happening in the comic book industry as well. One of those just happens to be a very special Iron Man project. Jon Favreau is not only helming the Iron Man movie, he's tackling a limited series entitled Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas. Joining Favreau is Adi Granov, who has done numerous Iron Man covers, interiors and served as one of the principle designers of the Iron Man armors in the film.
Viva Las Vegas is set under the Marvel Knights label, a brand the publisher uses for projects that are essentially removed from the grand, more complex nature of its ongoing publications. This means that Iron Man movie fans can simply pick up this series and have a good time (Marvel plans to release another book, Invincible Iron Man, that same day with the same goal in mind).
Here's Marvel's description of the series: "A Marvel Knights series by the talents who brought you the Iron Man movie! What's a billionaire to do when he's worn out from running a multi-national corporation? Well, if his name happens to be Tony Stark, it's a situation that calls for some R & R in the casinos of sin city! Mix in a beautiful archaeologist and the fifty-foot dragon statue she discovered, and a plague of lizards descending on Las Vegas, and it's a recipe for the sort of armored adventure that's a perfect chaser after an evening at the movies!"
IGN is fortunate enough to bring you two incredible exclusives this evening. The first is at 6pm PST; we'll be hosting the Iron Man trailer that is set to debut during this evening's broadcast of Lost. Those of you on the East Coast won't have to wait to see it during the show, and West Coast readers will get a three hour jump on the television trailer debut.
Over on IGN Comics, we have an exclusive preview of Viva Las Vegas. Included are high-res versions of a preview released in Iron Man #25 along with the final lettered versions. On top of that we have a couple more pages, the last of which is actually from the second issue.
Viva Las Vegas #1 is due in stores on May 7, 2008. Iron Man will be in theaters on May 2, 2008.
