It's always shocking to me when someone so young dies, but it somehow seems even worse when that person appears to be on top of the world. It's just very sad.

Yes, it was out of the blue. Strange, another young actor--Brad Renfro--died recently too. So sad.

It was a very sad news. I didn't particularly know him (despite having appreciated "A Knight's tale") but he was so young...

The pics look great, Seeing Ledger as the Joker on the pictures makes me think that the Dark Knight movie will be a big hit.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on the movie here. I haven't seen it yet, but everyone said marvels on Dark Knight. Who's seen it here? Comments?

Excellent -- Batman as it should be. Very emotionally draining picture. Heath Ledger was everything people said he was in that role. Harvey Dent is handled extremely well. This is another in a line of sequels that stand out: Superman II, Spider-Man II...

This flick was killed for me by the heightened expectations. Thought Heath was just okay. Effectively creepy, no doubt, but not much of a character arc. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock for example was a far more effective performance because I felt bad for him before and after his descent into villainy. Actually found the Two Face storyline MUCH better than Joker. Batman...Batman is just a brawler with toys. Where are the detective skills, the psychology, the power of suggestion? It's long been established that torture and physical violence don't work as coercion tactics. Why couldn't Nolan have come up with something better for Batman than trying to beat everyone up for information? How much better for Bats to use his intelligence and find someone's mental weaknesses and break them down that way? Lest you think I hated the film, I didn't. However, I did find given how complex and smart other fare from Nolan has been (can watch Memento over and over again, it's that good), I expected more of a true battle of wits between Bats and the Joker. I did love the ending. That really worked for me...

I came out of the film feeling sort of stunned, not unlike how I felt after seeing 'Seven' or "Silence of the Lambs'. I felt like I had gone through an ordeal. Don't get me wrong; it is a very well-made picture and quality all the way around. But it's definitely a bit of a downer (particularly when compared to other superhero flicks, but then, that's probably not a fair comparison).

I've finally seen it! It only took me 2 months, a bit longer and the DVD would have been out ^^'
I found it ok, but rather depressing, a feeling which I often link to Alan Moore's comics. It was very good from every point of view, but, to recreate the right atmosphere, it sacrificed the "sense of wonder" that I think should go with comics (and their movies).
The Joker was great, fantastic acting, and again I can see why they got rid of the more loony sides, like the acid flower etc, but he was also somewhat disturbing in the scenes with the knife, for the first time it didn't seem impossible to have a real Joker at large one day, and while that means the staff did a perfect job, it's also not the thing I'd like to think when exiting a cinema. In fact, it's not a movie that makes you feel particularly happy when you walk out I'd say.
Rachel death's was a surprise, but considering the problems with the actress, not a huge one. Harvey Dent and Batman's final choices where probably the things I liked the most overall.
Still, despite what box office says, I preferred Iron Man this summer ^^

The Dark Knight will be on dvd this december then in January it will be re-released in IMAX theaters to make more money.
There is another ending that didn't make it in the movie but I don' t want to give anything away if no one hasn't seen it.

I waited until just a month ago to see 'Begins'. I wish I hadn't. It was very good. I am looking forward to getting a chance to see this one as well.
