I just got done reading ALL of the captain America series (vol 1 #100 through vol5 #25)
I have a question. at the end of volume 3 in issue 50 they Kill cap off in a church full of Red skull followers. Everybody gets all boo hoo. Then in the start of volume 4. He's back with no explanation. Can anyone help me out with a continuity explanation? Or was this just a part of Marvel rebooting itself a few years back? I've been out of the comic loop for a while and am trying to get back up to speed on my favorites.

Please,.. any help would be appreciated. Also forgive the fact that this is in the wrong board. It was my very first attempt at a thread and I didn't do much looking around before posting

I do believe this is the wrong board. And this forum doesn't have a ton of posters, so if your answer is a wee bit slow in coming, you must be patient.
That being said, from what I understand, Cap merely went into hiding. He later came out of hiding when 9-11 occured.

If you're mystified, you're not alone. Cap died in Vol.3 #50. Then in Vol.4 #1, he gets better -- no explanation provided. Joe Quesada promised to explain what happened and why it happened, but that was a lie as no explanation has been provided to this day. The most likely interpretation is that Cap was really intended to die in a marketing stunt like the current Cap death, but 9/11 intervened and Marvel decided that they needed a patriotic superhero around, or at least the appearance of a patriotic superhero. OBVIOUSLY a Lie, since it's 100% impossible they could have had one intended but outside forces intervened.

Ok -- so what if the Captain America that is sleeping at a SHIELD headquarters is the one that died back in #50 -- and the other Cap was a clone created from DNA that Tony Stark took way back in AVengers number 4?

By this time it's overtaken by events. Not to mention that I'm sure Marvel would be reluctant to remind fans of their last aborted sales stunt when they are right in the middle of a new one.
