Finally read this piece o trash... Ugh. More BENDIS!?? crap with all of BENDIS!??'s favorite heroes.. Ugh. I should have known better I guess. The art was pretty good, that's the only good thing I can say. BENDIS!?? should never ever be allowed to write Spider Man, he does a piss poor job with him.

I'm not exactly Bendis' biggest vcheerleader but I and the vast majority of Spider-fans must disagree with you here; Bendis does indeed pick his favourites etc, but whatever I may think if his blatant mischaracterization of Iron Man and Captain America, Bendis writes an excellent Spider-Man, Ultimate AND 616. Indeed he was the one highlight of some of the worse NA arcs *coughronincough* for me.
And I know I'm not the only one, Bendis was a hot favourite among fellow spider-fans to be the new ASM writer, and he has quite the fanbase among fans of Spider-Man.

Well then everyone is wrong. He's terrible with Spider Man.

I dunno, he's doing a crap job of writing depresso-angry-black-suit Spidey right now, but he's brilliant at Spidey's banter especially, as wellas pretty got the character in general...
...I mean over at USM, for example, he's created many genuine laugh out loud bits of banter, quips etc....
Correct me I I'm wrong AA, and I'll apologize- but you're not a huge spider-man fan, are you? You don't/didn't get Amazing, right? Just curious, what's your problem with how Bendis writes him.

I'm a big Spider-Man fan, but once again, this is based on the comic I used to read before leaving comics. I collected Amazing, Spectacular and a little bit of Web. I find the BENDIS!?? take on him ... off somehow. I don't find the BENDIS!?? banter amusing and the character itself is a little too innocent out of the mask and way too annoying in the mask. Not to mention all the Jewish expressions that he never ever used back when I was buying the comic. During Civil War, I'd have to say Spidey was one of the best parts, but in Secret Wars I was hoping one of the villains would squish him. Just personal opinion of course, not like it's any secret I'm not a big fan of the BMB.

The Jewish expressions I agree with, especially given that Spidey's religion is left vague. Yes, we can piece together from clues that he's probably a sect of Protestant but it's usually left vary vague other than his belief in the Judeo-Christian-Muslim God, so people can imagine him to be their own fatih. Jewish expressions, just as any particular sect's expressions would, makes that harder. Personally, I like to imagine him as Catholic because I am. He's almost certainly not, but there's JUST enough clues there- his mother's surname being Irish, for example. Even if he's not, I still have Banshee... wait, no, he's dead, Nighrcrawler- hang on, Chuck Austen made him the son of satan or something.... there's always Veno- probably not the best example... and... um... ....I guess I'm left with the crap Ghost Rider and Daredevil. Why are the Catholics in comics always so angsty? Anyway, that was a wholly unrelated post for another thread. For now, let's just say we can agre to disagree on Bendis's Spider-Man, he's never written a 616 Spidey book so we can't say for sure, maybe it would suck, maybe it would be The Second Coming Of Stan Lee. PS: Dunno why ya dropped the spider-line! Other than "Sins Past" and "The Other" it's maintained a remarkable quality and the line as a whole is in pretty good shape atm. Which is, y'know, why they're totally revamping it in November.

I stopped buying comics in '96. Spiderman was in the middle of the clone saga and the Scarlet Spider was the main character at the time. When I started getting interested in comics again the only one I really wanted to follow was Avengers after hearing some good things about it. I happened on a few of the Perez issues, and thought "wow, time to get back into comics!" And what was the current Avengers running at the time ... New Avengers. Which didn't really start out to bad, but then just dragged on and dragged on without much happening. Not to mention I am so sick of seeing Wolverine these days I want to blind myself with a pencil. So it's not like I dropped Spidey just cause, I dropped everything.

WOW, AA, we stoped reading Spidey probably withing the same 5 days. It was disgusting trying to keep up with all the jumping around, and when all the shakeup was done, Cloneboy was in that lame new costume.
After all that, my Spidey jumping back on point was USM. No more shackling continuity, starting back in highschool, and and his personality was as vibrant as ever. AND in a nod to the classics he still had webshooters, when considering the way the movie went, organic shooters seemed so probably for USM.
I've picked up pieces here and there, but I still haven't jump back on to 616 Spidey, although I'm giving JMS current arc a try(so so thus far)

Ironically, I was very close to dropping Spidey at that EXACT time, only I hung on for one reason- it's freaking Spider-Man. How bad can it be..>?
I marvel at how anyone can call times horrible for the Avengers now if they have ever even looked at the Clone Saga for Spidey.
