Reginald Hudlin is a really sub-standard writer.

I'm not going to rant about MK Spidey #21 again, 'cause that was just awful. (Iron Man is... Aunt May! woot!) But... Amazing Spidey #526 was just plain uncool.
So Morlun plucks out Spidey's left eye and wipes his mouth (I don't know why people say he ate it; I didn't see it) and then... SPIDEY DIES ON THE LAST PAGE! (Or so the editor has said, and many fans are saying...)
Well, no, he lays in a pool of blood on the last page. That's all I saw. And Peter Parker is on the cover to a future chapter of The Other, alive and well...
The bad writing really came in at two parts:
1) "I've NEVER been hit that hard." Are you still conscious? Yes? Then you've been hit MUCH harder before.
2) "As I walk through the valley, etc..." Um, what?
The Reginald Hudlin Kids Variety Hour:
"I love you, you love me, we're a happy family... As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I'll give you a hug with my dying breath."
The point being that it was totally out-of-sync with the rest of the issue. It is very grating to have the writing style change two pages before the end, without a scene change.
*sigh*

Villain rips off Spider-Man's eye and eats it.
Need i say more?
The editor and EIC are as guilty as the the writer. Same like when Chuck Austen was in Avengers.

I actually think Morlun ripping out Spidey's eye and eating it was COOL. I didn't have an issue with THAT part. I like it when things like that happen to Spidey... - Adrian

I don't think you can - since that never happened to Spider-Man, ever (and for good reasons.) Well, Co0l, were the 90's - but i bet Marvel's bankruptcy by the end of it wasn't all that cool. One has to wonder if this keeps going the way it is, how cool is it going to be Peter Parker wearing a patch, prosthetic limbs, and a strap on. Or worse, having to trod down the storylines who retcon this clustereffer out of continuity (which by itself right now, in the Marvel Universe, is borderline destroyed.) There's also the point about what is so cool about maiming and disfiguring an honest super hero character that fights crime to the detriment of his own quality of life, but that's a whole other discussion and i'm not a professional psychiatrist.

I don't think the story was that bad (it got 9.5/10 in a Spider site review), but I strongly hope Peter won't stay half blind from now on. Since this is unlikely, they will need to find a way for him to get the eye back, which is probably going to mess continuity even more.

I want them to kill the git. Seriously. And I'm not going to justify it or let Ultron refer me to a shrink - it isn't necessarily a bad thing to want a good guy to die. Cancel the whole Spider franchise so we can see the return of... BADHAND! WOOT! - Adrian
