What're you reading these days, and what're you dropping? I've dropped STRANGERS IN PARADISE and SUPREME POWER and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Just couldn't justify the cost, for what I was getting.

Here is the complete list of titles I plan to grab in November:
MARVEL TEAM-UP #14 THOR: BLOOD OATH #4 SPIDER-MAN: HoM #5 CABLE/DEADPOOL #23 FANTASTIC FOUR WEDDING SPECIAL PULSE #12 SENTRY #3 EXILES #72 MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #20 EXILES #73
NEW EXCALIBUR #1 HOUSE OF M #8 DRAX #3 FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD SPIDER-MAN #2 NEW THUNDERBOLTS #15 NEW X-MEN #20 SHE-HULK #2 X-MEN #177 HOUSE OF M: THE NEXT DAY THING #1 X-MEN: DEADLY GENESIS #1 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #526 CAPTAIN AMERICA #12 X-FACTOR #1 YOUNG AVENGERS #9 GENERATION M #1 NEW AVENGERS #13
MACHINE TEEN #1-5 TPB
The ones in the first list are books that I wouldn't normally pick up, but am this month only.
As far as the regular books go, there are quite a few additions, namely the X-books. I have never been an X-Fan, for the exact reasons Joe Quesada outlined when explained the whole 'No More Mutants' thing. I'm gonna give them a go now, though.
And I only get Amazing Spider-Man a) because Jarvis is in it and b) because it is part of the THE OTHER x-over.
I am dropping NEW AVENGERS, mostly because it is so overwhelmingly crap I cannot bear to spend $3.74 USD on it each month. Every single issue has sucked so far, for so many reasons. I said I'd give it twelve issues and I have, and I've not enjoyed a single one - which is odd, since there was not a single issue of Vols. 1-3 which I didn't like.
(I'll still be reading it, though - ny brother-in-law loves it and will keep buying it.)
I also suspect that I'll drop CAPTAIN AMERICA after the Winter Soldier arc.

BTW - Probably a good idea to fully announce the board on the main site or make a button\link\section for it in the menu, since i think most people won't notice it, particularly since - at least on this side - the link to it appears on the same colour as the regular text making it hard for people to realise it's a link, let alone that there's a board on the other side. (EDIT- oops, just realised it's already there.)
Now,
The only time i read less comics was when i right down stopped reading them - the 90's.
I'm only picking up:
Conan - Dark Horse, By Kurt Busiek, amazing stuff Infinite Crisis - Pretty cool so far Godland - Image comics, by Joe Casey, with a Kirby riff. Great stuff. Superman - The Gail Simone & John Byrne run. Justice - JLA\Alex Ross Rann Thanagar War - Over now, but amazing Ivan Reis, Neal Adams type art Seven Soldiers - Shining Knight - Great art too.
The only Marvel stuff i picked up was Spider-Man, Friendly Neighbourhood. Great old school art from Mike Wieringo - Too bad it's a freakin' crossover *sigh*.
My favorite pleasure really though, is the Essentials and old TPB's from the 60's, 70's, 80's. Good days.

Oh, and i recently dropped:
New Avengers - Pure unadulterated crap. Captain America - Didn't excite me anymore, not bad though. Astonishing X-Men - Kinda fizzed out. Great start though. Young Avengers - Loved it when it was a comic book, now it reads like a liberal pamphlet with Rosie O'Donnel ghost writting it. Art was amazing.

Ok, this is a bit difficult for me to answer for various reasons. Let's say that, eventually, I'll be reading New Avengers Thor son of Asgard The Saga of Beta RayBill Thor: Blood oath All the SpiderMan titles SpiderGirl
In Italy, where I'm from, the issues are published in 72 pages long comic books, each containing stories from various american magazines. For example "Uomo Ragno" (SpiderMan) contains in turn most of the Spiderman related comic books, so Amazing, Spectacular, Unlimited, and also Venom, SpiderGirl etc. The Avengers are published together with Thor (and its limited series) and Captain America.

Oh, that's nice. I'm in Portugal, so not only did we have the same methods but we constantly changed as the decades passed by from Portuguese publishers, to Brazillian publishers. It was actually pretty cool since they really separated the wheat from the chaff and much of the filler material was simply skipped - I only noticed how bad it was when i when to the American source. It also allowed me to read stuff from the 60's and 70's, during the late 80's, which was all published in the US even before i was born. For the longest running publisher (a Brazillian one) we had 100 page books in small size format that brought the equivalent of 4 US comics in one issue, pretty cool since sometimes we had full Avengers arcs in just one issue. They were pretty cheap too, good times! Nowadays a Portuguese division of a company (Devir, not Paninni) publishes material in full size, gloss, with much smaller delays in time from the US, much akin to what Paninni does. That said, i end up getting comics imported, in english, from an Online company over here - Even though their shop is pretty close to me anyway. Back in the day we too had Avengers published with Thor, or Captain America in the same issue, pretty cool when there was crossovers, since it was all in one issue. Of course, those where the days where continuity actually made sense though

Not sure I understand your complaint about YOUNG AVENGERS. I think it's one of the two or three best books Marvel's publishing right now, along with TBOLTS and one or two others. Care to clarify? Thanks! --Van

Currently, I'm not reading anything since a few weeks ago, I had to cancel my pull-list for money reasons. Until that time, I was regularly following:
Brubaker's Cap Young Avengers New Thunderbolts FF JSA JSA Classified Countdown to Infinite Crisis tie-ins OHOTMU updates Teen Titans (but was on the verge of dropping it , anyway) Defenders
And, yes, I did pick up the first six issues of HoM (but not the tie-ins). Neither my 15 year old son or myself enjoyed that turkey.
Nice to find another Avengers MB, BTW.

Interesting, things in Portugal are very similar to Italy (our publisher is Panini). There too they sometimes used to skip fill-in issues or unpopular series. Pity that sometimes there have been important "victims", Thunderbolts has been dropped a long time ago, shortly after the Nefaria Protocols crossover.

I buy a lot but read less. i'm a Fanboy from Waaaay back...
JSA Thunderbolts Anything Avengers (as I have a complete run and think they are the s**t!) JLA Superman (as this title over the years has overall been the most consistant) Ultimate (Spider-Man, X-Men, Ultimates as this is great writing) Conan And a lot of other stuff because I love comics. I spend probably $30 a week average on new issues, though it changes occasionally what I buy. I liked House of M in concept, though not all the issues. Same w/ Infinite Crisis and I AM NOT looking forward to DC messing with what they did. As in politics though, my opinion means squat...

I got a HUGE pull list.......
DC: Aquaman Batgirl (at least until it gets cancelled) Batman Birds of Prey (Gail's great) Firestorm The Flash Green Lantern Green Lantern Corps (Will continue into the ongoing) Infinite Crisis JLA JLA: Classified JSA JSA: Classified Nightwing Outsiders Robin (Can't wait for Willingham to leave this title) Superman/Batman (Can't wait till the new creative team) Teen Titans
I'm also getting any Infinite Crisis tie-in basically, too, but didn't want to list thgose cause I'd be dropping them once I find out the status in ONE YEAR LATER
Marvel:
Amazing Spider-Man (had a long absense from Spidey but with the new crossover figuredit was best chance to get back into it) Exiles Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (gotta give the new title a shot) Ghost Rider (great mini so far and i'm not much of a Ghost Rider fan) Marvel Knight's Spider-Man New Avengers (not a great title but gotta see Spidey as an Avenger (even though this isn't really the Avengers)) New Excaliber New Thunderbolts (I loved the old series and this one lacks what that had but still good) New X-Men Nick Fury's Howling Commanoes She-Hulk Spider-Girl Thing (giving this a chance. First issue didn't impress me though)

Well, I've collected everything at one time or another. Currently this is it...
MARVEL:
New Avengers Young Avengers Ultimates
DC:
Legion of Superheroes JLA Titans
I've attempted to downsize several times, but can't seem to "let go" after all of these years. These books are my outlet I guess. I have a complete (silver age to current) collections of both the Avengers and the Legion. My JLA and Titans collections are near complete. Even if I wanted to sell, I wouldn't know where to begin. Besides, these titles are ever evolving and my interest continues to peak for ongoing developments.

On a regular basis I buy:
New Avengers Ultimate FF Ultimates Legion of Super-Heroes
Minis currently buying or recently finished:
Infinite Crisis Justice Batman: One Year Later by my buddy Don Kramer
And the occasional tpb or Essentials. I also buy most Marvel Legends action figures and an occasional offering from DC Direct.

Here's my current list of buys, modified a bit since last fall when I started this thread:
Iron Man Thunderbolts New Avengers Young Avengers Squadron Supreme Annihilation (all) Conan Ms. Marvel Moon Knight Ultimate Fantastic Four Book of Lost Souls The Thing Son of M Civil War
Wow-- that is about as long a list of comics as I've ever bought. This really is a good time for comics, IMO.
plus I've bought Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes the first two months, out of curiousity. And I've really gotten into Hellboy and BPRD, via the trades. Same with Ultimate Spider-Man and the new Captain America (Brubaker).
I'll also be getting the new Justice League (Meltzer) because I enjoyed Identity Crisis so much.

Van, what do you think so far of Annihilation? I did just read the first five books on sunday (it did take some time til I got the prologue -- because my dealer had sold his only copy (which was for me) to another customer ). So far, I´m not impressed at all. I found the prologue a little bit confusing (litterally hard to read), and (mainly) the art isn´t for my liking, too. The best one so far (imho) was Nova #1 and easily the worst one was Ronan #1 (imho very bad art). Of course, all the stories so far were only some introduction for the crossover. But I´m questioning myself already: okay, we have a very big galactic war against one pissed off Annihilus whose antagonists are some former heralds of Galactus, maybe Galactus himself plus Nova/Super-Skrull and Ronan (no Shi´ars anywhere? ) - in other words, Annihilus against 50% of the galaxy. Aah, I almost did forget Thanos, shame on me... That can´t be all, can it? I really hope it get´s a little bit more intricate (I mean absorbing) than that. And I´d hope sometime soon...

Regularly: New Avengers (Mostly because I'm trying to hang in there waiting for better days) Young Avengers (Love it) She-Hulk Ms. Marvel Fantastic Four Thing (Though apparently not for much longer, Too bad!) Squadrine Supreme Civil War & Frontline Son of M
Notice the omission of anything with Spider or X in the title. I love Spidey but he and the mainstream mutants are just too much to follow. They're everywhere and I can't keep up with it all so I pretty much avoid them. I did pick up a couple of Spidey "Road to Civil War" issues but they certainly didn't hook me back in. These days I couldn't even tell you who's on any particular X team.

I swore off the X-Men about 5-6 issues into Jim Lee's run (what, 13-14 years ago??) -- I had found the book getting more and more confusing (although looking better and better) with the new character explosion. Spidey got deep-sixed for me with the clone saga/return of Norman Osborn. I do, however, enjoy Ultimate Spidey in tpb form. I have the first Ultimate X-Men tpb, but it didn't make me want to buy the second one.

If I was buying these comics off the rack I would be spending about 170 dollars including bags and boards and gas, in comparison to 100 dollars including bags and boards and shipping. So I can't complain.

Do you keep it all straight month to month? Sometimes I forget what happened in the last issue (which should somewhat speak to the writing/storylines these days).
BTW, my pal Don Kramer is moving from the current Batman/Detective One Year Later story over to Detective with Paul Dini. Don's recent Batman stuff has been his best work, IMO.
