RIGHT HUMANBELLY--I am still scratching my head, twenty five years later, as to why such a stunning character as Storm needed a makeover? She'd only been around for a couple of years and it wasn't like she needed a jump-start.
You are so right about the whole Earth Mother thang. I loved how, when Storm was first presented, African villagers thought she was a goddess and wanted to sacrifice animals to her. Now that was novel and cool! Storm also represented the first time a female team member was the most powerful person on the team. It was unheard of at the time! Remember when the X-Men snuck into that military base in like the second or third issue, and a Storm just swept away those soldier by summoning a flood? And Cyclops just sort of stared at her? Now that was an impressive moment

Humanbelly, I love that avatar. I am jealous. Heh-- Thanks all, for the kind avatar kudos. Truly, while I'm a hefty fellow (5'-11"; about 230 lbs), the "Humanbelly" username was a spur-of-the-moment choice. As I was getting signed up, my daughter was giving me an ENDLESS ribbing about the fact that I'd finished off the previous day's leftover spaghetti, or something. I was, of course, expanding my stomach to show her how big a space needed to be filled. . . and that was pretty much it. . . ! The Blob was that first avatar choice (certainly appropriate), but then I realized that Volstagg/Falstaff- a large fellow in love with the sound of his own voice- was VASTLY more suitable. Foghorn Leghorn wouldn't be bad, either. . . HB

Volstag was a much better choice!

I agree. The Blob is cool, but Volstag is much cooler. Foghorn Leghorn is one of the most underrated cartoon characters of all time. Still, Volstag fits the Humanbelly name better than Foggy.
