Now at least Young Avengers has given us something to think about...
I'll be the first to admit that I got a little tired of Kang and Ultron over the recent years, but the YA is a fresh look at an old theme. I like the characters, Cassie Lang being a natural, and the rest are pretty cool as presented so far.
I look forward to what developes here; the drug thing, the character interaction, and having Cap ad Iron Man in the supporting cast is a definite plus. I don't really understand how and why Cage's wife/GF got into the cast, but so far I like her.
I hope something happens w/ this book...

The first story arc was a pretty good mix of action, drama, and characterization. The current issues are more character focused, but hopefully it kicks into high gear. I really love the group. I've loved Cassie since she was a regular in DeFalco's FF (I'm possibly one of the few fans of his run). What would make Young Avengers even BETTER would be adding Kristoff Vernard into the mix, as he and Cassie were very flirty with each other back in FF....

Kristoff Vernard in the Young Avengers? So cool. He could be the new Iron Lad. I'm generally enjoying YA, but I had issues with the representation of time travel in the first arc - since when has changing the past affected the present? Sure, that have been a few occasions where this has happened, but I can think of very few - read: two - involving Kang. A minor point to bring up, but I don't have any other problems with YA and need something to complain about. - Adrian

The weird way time travel was handled in the first story arc is best summed up by Jessica Jones: "See, this is why I hate time travel..." Chris

Yeah, the first arc's use of time travel was odd, but since when are time travel stories ever really consistent? One story will say time is fluent...ever changing...another will say the past can't be altered...so really, i don't see a problem, there.
Oh, and Kristoff would make a great edition and they do need a new Iron Lad.
By the way, anyone else prefer Patriot with the full face mask? the eyemask looks weird to me....

What other kinds of new avengers would you like to see? I'm hoping for a maybe a Marvel Girl, and a Wonder Boy maybe.

I think it would be cool for the Young ’uns to recruit someone a little older, preferably with some “Avengers cred”—someone the YA’s (heh—Hawkeye would probably call them “Yahoos”) could look up to as a mentor and also as someone who gives their team a certain respectability in the eyes of the Avengers and the world at large. But the really cool twist would be that this mentor-recruit might not be all that much more experienced than the YA’s and might not actually be so respected by the grownups as the YA’s think. And that could put extra pressure on the mentor, plus there’d be fallout as the other YA’s come to see the mentor’s feet of clay. I think Gravity would be excellent in this role—he’s older (college freshman) but fairly new, and he’s been networking with the Avengers a little bit. Possibly the new Scorpion could also fulfill this role, if her SHIELD activities ever extend to an association (or an apparent association) with the Avengers.

This evening I posted a Civil War checklist, which includes the four-issue Young Avengers–Runaways limited series. That got me thinking about the possibility that, with a superhero civil war going on, the two teams might end up swapping members. (Note: a swap is pure speculation on my part; I don’t know any story details.) My thoughts turned back to my notion of an Avengers-related mentor-member. The Runaways have met the Avengers—but in a mildly adversarial capacity; so, the idea of an ex-Runaway serving as an Avenger-wannabe role model is, at present, a greater stretch, but I suppose it could happen. Still, it could interesting for the Young Avengers to bring Runaway Victor into the fold, given his father’s relationship to the Avengers and to one of the Young Avengers, to boot!

Regarding the issue of time travel, YA can't really dodge the idea of alternate time lines very well since Cassie becomes Stinger in the MC2 universe and it is clearly her first super hero identity. I think the old explanation has always been that time travel doesn't necessarily affect the future, but instead creates a variant time line. Maybe we need to just ask the Watcher.

I would want Thor-Girl, Rage and Mattie Franklin to join Young Avengers. Here is the reason why I chose those three. Thor Girl is not only an ally of Thor but, Tarene(Thor Girl) has the same powers as him as well. Rage was once an Avenger but, the other Avengers found out that he was a kid and he couldn't be able to be a member back then. Mattie Franklin once disguise herself as Spider-Man andshe was his ally too so in a semi-way she is connected to Spider-Man(sent he's an Avenger too). Oh, and there's Franklin Richards who could join the YA. His powers could give the team the avantage they need if they ever come across a very powerful super-villain. Well, that's it for me. Late'.

Ah, I miss Mattie Franklin. She could fit into my mentor-recruit idea, with her association with both Spider-Man and Spider-Woman. Indeed, she was called Spider-Woman too—which would be a little confusing. Maybe a name change could solve that problem (but not to “Spider-Girl”—that would just make matters worse!). I guess Bendis did something with Mattie in Alias, which I didn’t read, and so I don’t know her status.

I would actually like to see Hawkeye lead the youngsters.

Mattie Franklin... I had nearly forgot her. I'm not sure if she would fit in YA. I don't know the book, but as far as I've read around, it shows the young version of the classic Avengers team. As such, introducing a Spider character may not work very well for the chemistry of the book.

I’m not yet convinced that Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shephard are Wanda’s children. Even if they are related to her in some way, they may not be the kids—they could be other kids into whom the missing soul-shards were implanted, or something. Maybe they’re Bob and Madeleine Frank’s twin children. Boy, would that be weird.

I think it would be cool for the Young ’uns to recruit someone a little older, preferably with some “Avengers cred”—" What about Spitfire formerly of Invaders? She is actually quite a bit older (like 80) but due to a blood transfusion from the Human Torch, her body was revitalized to about the age of 16 or 17. Thus, while actually having the wisdom of life and battle experience of the war and decades after, she has the body of a teen and wold fit in quite well, while being an effective leader (plus for all the comparisons to the adult avengers, you have a silverhaired speedster). I think Cap would find this quite acceptable having worked with Jackie in the War. The only thing is they would have to restore her hair and get rid of that ATROCIOUS costume in the most recent Invaders book. A fashion horror even for an 80 year old. At least bring back the red mask and body suit she wore in the 40's if nothing else! the name "Wiccan" has to go, I agree. Might as well go with Hex . Love the dialog with Kate about her codename. ha ha.. that's great. He could go with an homage to his mother and call himself the Blue Witch (although, many associate "witch" with females). Maybe Hex for a bit. Turn back the clock folks, remember the great times of the superheroes from the 70's and early 80's that's what made comics great, the kooky names, the letters on the chest, the swimsuit costumes, the capes, it's what made that universe a fantasy to escape to. Marvel Girl is too advanced for these guys, she wouldn't fit in very well. But maybe Wolfsbane would be a nice addition (there's your Beast tie in). I hope Stature stays, she should in honor of her dad. He was cool. But she should assume the costume fun of the Wasp. I actually kind of like the team. So Hope that it remains fun and pays good tribute to the original Avengers. A Ms. Marvel character? hmmmm..... How bout one of the Guthrie kids? since there are so many of them, surely one of them is ready to burst out something. Or else, bring in a Kree/Human kid which would balance the Skrull/Kree combo. Maybe Tommy can go with the Runaways and leave Wiccan with the YA. Vision can stay Vision. later.

Rage would be a really good addition to the team as a pure strength player. If they were to have an Avengers liason I would think Justice would be a good pick. He knows what it was like to be youg/powerful and lloking in at the Avengers.
I hope they get off their keisters and pick this title back up.
