Almost every Marvel comic (I've bought online) from that time period has a gaping space where that little stamp was...grrrrrr!!! The Buscema Vision portrayed in the stamp reminded me of how much I've always liked JB's rendering of the Vision--proud, strong, mysterious. I always felt that JB's Vizh looked a lot like his Silver Surfer (drawn for the first time by John in 1968, a few months before he drew the Vision). Both characters lacked hair, so you really got the classical aspect of their heads/faces, enhanced by the requisite Buscema cheekbones, strong jaws, and sensual lips. Plus they both had those deep, dark eyes/eye sockets. Kirby's Surfer, in comparison, had a head shaped like an egg--basically a smooth oval, with little in the way of facial contours...Kirby's SS looked like an alien (in keeping with Kirby's concept). In Buscema's hands, the Surfer became the perfect (humanoid) male. The Vision was idealized, too, though he was covered head to toe except for a portion of his face. Byrne's Vizh may have been a hybrid of the two... Buscema and Thomas pay homage to Kirby and Simon's Vision: Okay, back on topic: glad Shiryu is back ...and I hope von Bek graces us with a post or two before the year is up.

Yay for members coming back from long absences! Welcome back Shiryu! Of the three covers sharkar has posted, only two of the three have great stories, and the one that doesn't will go down in the annals of my mind as one of the most nonsensical stories of all time. Can you guess which one?

Can you guess which one? I actually thought the Byrne WCA Vision story was effective...very harrowing and tragic. I read it years after it was issued, but I can just imagine the impact it must have had at the time it was published. I'm just surprised Byrne's ivory Vision lasted so long after Byrne left the series. I would have thought other writers would have wanted to restore the Vision.

I actually thought the Byrne WCA Vision story was effective...very harrowing and tragic. I read it years after it was issued, but I can just imagine the impact it must have had at the time it was published. I read it when it first came out -- seeing one of my favorite characters go from having human feelings to being the cold, heartless character that he once was in the early issues helped make me a bit sour on the series as a whole. I also agree with you that it surprised me that Byrne's version of Vision lasted so long, I kept hoping that he'd get back to being normal so that poor Wanda would stop getting all upset! WCA was still light years ahead of the East Coast book at that point, but it still led the book being out of my favor.

I'm back for the umpteenth time. Today. I do check in but I'm more of a lurker than a participant. I'm not as smart and witty as most of you. Guess I'm a little lazy and alot disappointed with the way of the comic world. It keeps reminding me of how old I am. I don't think the artwork is good, it's confusing. Where's the story telling? And where is the story?

Hey, W was lurking!! How has your hiatus been? Fine. I've been forced off comics for the past three months because of massive money problems. That, combined with the fact that there's no one really here that enjoys the same comics I do (except Doom and goldenfist), there's not really much of a reason for me to post . . . or even stop by. I come by every once and all, see all the negativity towards comics that I want so badly . . . and then I leave. Sorry for coming off so sad and depressed. I'm just having a rough couple of weeks . . . or months . . .

Sharkar brought to my attention that we've not seen a Dr. Pym sighting in over a week! Yeah... sorry about that. Just had some things to fix up on the homefront. Sometime this week I'll drop by and post my thoughts on the many interesting topics that have been posted!

It's depressing, and I don't even bother to go in. Oh, for the days when the Captain America comic featured, well, Captain America. RSC

I don't know much about them myself, but it appears to be an expanding media.

I think that "digital comics" completely miss of the point of the comic medium. Comics are somthing you hold in your hand, turn, examine, smell, and take to sleepovers when you're 10 years old. When you're 35, you take out that comic again and hold it in your hand, turn, examine, smell, and relive it. Then you go back to the comic store for the first time in 15 years to see what your favorite characters are doing. To me, that is what comics are about.

RSC Sure, that may be the idea for you and me, but are they that for other people? I don't know woodside, but if he's anything like the current generation, there's a good chance that the tangible comic isn't as important as the experience of reading it and being able to share in the digital zeitgeist of it. I don't know how the twentysomethings view comics. It may be just digesting the story that's important. If that's the case, then digital comics would certainly fill that need.

Marvel (and DC to a certain extent) seem to be testing the waters, as it is. I think, honestly, people of my generation (and indeed, probably the generation after me) will still be buying comics in paper format. I'm fairly certain the paper format will be around for a while longer -- probably as long we have books, we'll still have comics. I think we may see an evolution in terms of medium (ie. more on-line comics, more graphic novels, etc). Plus, eventually putting a comic on-line allows a company to earn money three ways. Intial single issue, trade paperback release, and digital format. Now, this is all pretty speculative on my part. I, on the other hand, am not a fan of having to read a comic on the computer screen. It's bothersome.

There will always be a market for paper books and comics as long as I'm alive! I agee that digital comics largely misses the point. I don't mind getting my daily news digitally, though.

To be honest, I just don't have the time. My comic purchases haven't been as regular as of late, due mostly to money. I recently got a new job, which has been requiring a two-hour drive every day. It's full-time too, which means I'm 5 days a week. Any free I do have, I normally spend with my wife (turns out marriage is not easy!).
So, to be honest, other than poking my head here every now and then and seeing the usual amount of Bendis/Millar hate, I just don't have much to say.
