On July 5th. The robots in disguise take on the world's premiere superhero team.
Launching the same week as the Transformers movie, New Avengers/Transformers is a four issue miniseries just announced at Joe Quesada's Cup 'O Joe panel at NYCC pitting IDW's successfully relaunched Transformers against the House of Ideas' flagship team of Avengers. Written by Stuart Moore with artwork by Top Cow's Tyler Kirkman, the series marks a new partnership on several levels.
Set in a time prior to the events of Marvel Civil War, the New Avengers/Transformers miniseries tells of an Earth where the Transformers and Marvel superheroes have co-existed peacefully and out of each other's line of fire for years… until now. "We see this as a previously untold adventure that happens between the first two story arcs of New Avengers (Breakout and Sentry) – and after the events of the first two Transformers arcs (Infiltration and Escalation)," explained Bill Rosemann, the Marvel editor in charge of this miniseries. "The New Avengers line-up is Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage and Spider-Man – with Ms. Marvel and the Falcon called in for air support!"
But what about the Transformers?
"Looking at the Autobots available after the Infiltration story arc, we’ve lined up familiar faces like Bumblebee, Ratchet, Prowl, Jazz and Wheeljack – all led by Optimus Prime himself," revealed Rosemann. "As for the Decepticons, with evil afoot can Starscream and Megatron not be far behind?"
In this miniseries, the Transformers and the Marvel Universe have co-existed on the same Earth for a long time. It takes a situation of a great magnitude for them to be drawn together, and that kind of event is happening as the nations of Symkaria and Latveria go head-to-head in an all-out war. In an attempt to difuse the situation, S.H.I.E.L.D. calls on Captain America and his teammates to investigate a mysterious object that appears to be in the middle of the Symkaria/Latveria struggle. And that's where the Transformers, in their "more than meets the eye" scale and scope, come in.
