LMAO! If Bendis wasn't such an arrogant *ss, he'd cut his losses with Echo and move on. But no, Echo/Ronin was his idea, therefore it was a good idea. Two years and 25 issues of "assembling the team" later and it's back to square one. RSC

What a great start. As everyone eagerly awaits the new line up, the first thing we find out for sure is that it will include the last character most people seem to want. Bendis sure doesn't have a talent for building interest. Here's my guess for the full line up. Spider-man Wolverine Captain America Ghost Rider Punisher Echo Sentry (I know he's in MA, but it would be typical Bendis to use him for both) Brother Voodoo
I think it is a perfect line up for Bendis because it combines characters who are so popular that the book will sell no matter how he writes them and characters no one cares about. I also included Cap because that will be the only way anyone will know they are Avengers.

Wolverine has been such a bad fit for this group all along. He has brought nothing to the table that Hawkeye didn't bring back in 1965-66 in terms of stirring-the-leader's-credibility pot.

I respectfully disagree: Clint never bellowed: "Stop raping meee...!!!" As anyone knows, that dramatically elevated Wolverine to a cathegory on par with the best Shakespearean characters...

For that matter this desperate plead by Wolverine should be, ironically, directed to the Powers That Be at Marvel... These days, if anyone could be accused of raping ol' Logan, it would be them,IMO, and those serial rapists are not satisfied with screwing with just Wolverine, either...

member #2: Ronin But it is not Echo. forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=97105My guess: it'll be Cap. Anyone remember Nomad? The Captain? When he gets disillusioned with the establishment, he tends to take on these 'null' identities.

I'm betting Ronin will be Clint Barton, since he is back, has changed identities in the past, and they gave his superhero name to Kate Bishop already.

If Bendis puts Cap in that abomination of a ninja suit, I promise to vomit while my head spins in a 360-degree circle. I believe that "Ronin" will be one of three characters: Cap, Clint, or Bucky. Bendis has dropped rumors for months that the so-called "Winter Soldier" would be appearing in NA, and this seems a likely opportunity for that. I dropped Captain America permanently over the resurrection of Bucky, so this is certainly not something I want to see.

Wow, so now we have Echo and Ronin. Just when you think it can't get any worse. I was joking about my Brother Voodoo suggestion earlier but I think it's starting to sound like a step up.

This is sad, my god Echo and Ronin. It sounds to me like bendis relaized that people thought the girl in a man-suit idea was stupid, and instead of ditching the Ronin charater, like any smart writer would do, he had to try and reinvent it, to prove that he was right about it.
If Cap is Ronin, what will that do to brubakers Cap comic. I know what it will do to my collecting NA and Cap, it will make me drop them totally.

Ronin has to be either Cap or Clint. My guess is Clint. If it's Cap then they'll probably make Bucky the new Captain America. And then there's a rumor that Cap is dead and that is why we don't see him in the NA.

Except that -- if written correctly -- Bucky could not possibly pass for Captain America, physically speaking. *slaps self* Oh, wait...Echo/Ronin...Bendis...

The sad part is this "stuff" still sells. I have never felt so out of the loop in my life and I'm not even sure when it started.

Although I think we've all experienced, at times, a little disdain for the creators in charge of our favorite title, I would say my present (ongoing) state of disgust began toward the end of Vol. III. The Red Skull story, search for She-Hulk, Lionheart of Avalon, Disassembled, NA -- yuck to all!!!
I think the big Kang story was the last good thing.

I didn't realy care for the Kang story for alot of reasons, including that Kang took over the whole world but it was only mentioned in the Avengers. I would have thought Ben or Reed would have looked out the window and wondered what was going on.
And wouldn't Ms Marvel see Kang's son and think "This is the creepo who raped me. I thought he was dead. I'd better fix that."
But all in all, I agree with you. The Red Skull story marks the beginning of the end.

GOOD GOD. Last day before I have to return and- forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=97297I guess this was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time coming given how big a role he has played so far in Bendis stories. I pray his powers are limitd. In all seriousness though... this I can see. It's nowhere near as bad as some stuff we've seen. A shock but not TOO much of a stretch.

It just gets more and more ridiculous. I like Dr. Strange, but I have problems seeing him in Avengers. For one thing, I really think he works best solo (or as a guest star). Number two, as mentioned before, the scope of his power is so vast, one could make the arguement that the rest of the team is unnecessary.
This one though I guess I am less upset about than the previous two.
Hey, maybe we can get a team that is Avengers-free!! You know, 'no previous Avenging experience required'.

I'm betting it's Squirrel Girl... So, from now on, the Avengers will in effect become the NEW Defenders, that is, the non-team...

I never, ever, not even in my most delirious dreams, would have imagined Marvel or an Avengers' writer doing what Bendis is doing... it's almost like he's trying to obliterate on porpouse everything which took other, better creators than him, to buid decade after decade... Well, on that regard, he must feel very frustrated for, no matter how hard he seems to be trying, his zombies... I mean fans, just keep on lovin' every good dump he takes...

How is putting Dr. Strange on the team obliterating everything that has come before? Sometimes you say things that just don't apply to what is happening. "The Avengers just got worse! Now that Dr. Strange is joining this book I haven't even read yet, it has GOT to be bad!" ~W~

I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but a mate pointed this out for me. After dispatching with the earth-shattering threat that was the ninjas!!! (Really good ninjas, sorry) Ronin/Echo had a conversation with Iron Man.
Think about that for a moment -
A character who relies on reading lips, talking casually to someone in a metal mask.
And with Dr Strange in the team? Is this just going to be a mystical version of the rest of NA - you know how it was with Iron Man and his amazing friends? Dr Strange and his amazing sidekicks? Or (as I like to call them) the Defenders?

Bloody Hell!!! Did you read this bit? “Now as a lot of people have seen from the cover, it has a lot to do with Elektra and The Hand, but I guarantee you, I promise you, it is not what it appears to be. There is a very shocking finale to that story that will carry through the New Avengers title for a little while. "
Okay! Ninjas! Daredevil's girlfriend! A story not like the cover! A story which effects the Avengers, but doesn't have them!
Bendis rocks!!! (insert appropriately sarcastic smiley here)

And here's another thing: Ronin has big bloody swords. Granted Black Knight had one that could cut through anything, but he was a master swordsman who always effectively used the flat of the blade and had real consequences if he cut anyone. (Remember the great Avengers cluster leading up to #300?)
If Cap is Ronin, how is he going around with two bloody big swords? No experience with swords (neither has Clint) and an extreme code against killing is now using two swords?
Waddaya reckon?

Ew, I wanna play. here's my guess for Bendis' final line up:
Echo (given) Ronin (Cap) Red Ronin (giant robot) Wolverine ($$) Spider-Man (ditto $$) Sun Fire Ghost Rider and Captain Ultra
plus Angel Iceman Hurcules Dr. Strange and Man-Thing
tradition be damned! we NEED more Avengers!

[sigh] Is it possible to have a thread about "New Avengers" without someone going off on some insane tyrat about Bendis? ~W~ Is it possible for Bendis to write New Avengers without f***ing s*** up even worse than he has already? About Doctor Strange -- I am not totally opposed to having him an Avenger in principle. However, I have zero faith in Bendis' ability to handle him correctly. I am going to make a prediction right now -- Dr. Strange is only on the team because Bendis needs a plot device/deus ex machina in the near future. What better deus ex machina than Dr. Strange? Whether it's one big story, or just tidying up all the plot holes that Bendis is too clumsy to resolve without resorting to cop-outs, Dr. Strange will be the fix-all. Of course, this is precisely how Dr. Strange should not be handled. RSC

[sigh] Is it possible to have a thread about "New Avengers" without someone going off on some insane tyrat about Bendis? ~W~ No it's not, because he is the retard that is behind all the stupidness. I tried thew40, I really did. I listened to your long standing support for the man and was starting to give him the benefit of the doubt. But he must be on crack or something 'cause every year his ideas get more and more out of control. I think he's on a crusade to see just how much stupid crap he can pull and still have his mindless zombie fans, his Bendees keep lapping it up. On top of that he's flipping off us older fans who know he's writing crap and letting him know it. Mighty Avengers is his attempt to appease the old school while he fills NA with characters that no one but the almighty Bendis cares about. I don't have a problem with change, but there are limits. If Bendis was even a moderately capable writer who could make me care about his characters and want to see what happens to them I wouldn't even mind it so much. The sad fact is his characters are very two dimensional and uninteresting. Given the amazingly different backgrounds of the original New Avengers, you would think he could have had a wonderful time exploring the cultural, ethinic and even religious diversity. If he wasn't going to have real villains to fight, he could have explored the characters themselves. But no, closest we got was Emma Frost telling Sentry awakening his powers was comparable to taking a huge dump and that's just sad, it really is. If the man actually went to a writing school he must have spent his time partying it up and barely passed with a D-. I've spent a lot of thought on this and I'm not trying to pick a fight or even start one thw40 but the only reason I can come up with for your constant support of Bendis and your anger at personal attacks on him is because.... you ARE Bendis. It's true isn't it? You've come here to try and subvert our cause and win support. It's ok you can tell us. I can handle the truth.
