Pretty obvious answer for this storyline, don't you think? Awhile back someone said..."where did their powers go?". Well, now we know! And, I gotta throw my 2 cents in here...what is the problem with comic readers hating the "talky" issues? There has been plenty of "talky" writers and comics in the past...Bendis isn't the first, you know. AND...I thought the comics world imploded 10-15 years ago due to the fact issues were all about fight scenes and pretty pictures...NO PLOT!!! So now when a guy like Bendis decides to write some words on his pages he is getting The Hate from everyone. What gives? Bottom line: Fanboys complain no matter what is given to them.

There’s a thing called balance. And another thing called wordsmithery.
In this issue, there’s a SHIELD agent named Daisy Johnson. I get the impression this is not her first appearance. Who is she? Best joke of the issue—possibly the entire volume thus far—is just two words and comes from Spider-Man. It’s a tip of the hat to an awesome movie, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. (If you haven’t seen it...well, maybe you should; while it’s not about superheroes in the usual sense, its sensibilities should resonate with old-school superhero-comics fans.)

There is a large difference between a talky comic that advances the plot and a talky comic that just fills up pages for no reason. In my opinion a vast majority of NA is just filler, whole chunks of issues could be taken out, and this series as it stands up to issue 18 could be cut down to 12 issues and have the same amount of charater development and action that it currently has had, with the same amount of forward plot movement. I think many are just tired of what seems to be about a 3 or 4 issue arc decompressed into 6 issues, Or a 2 issues arc into 4 issues, or 1 issue arc decompressed into 2. You get my drift. Like the above poster said there must be balance and as of right now there is none, and the charaters seem to have dialogue right out of the OC or Melrose Place.

No insult to Melrose Place, of course.

No insult to Melrose Place, of course. No, it was fine for what it was... However weekly TV show dialogue, from teens and people in there mid -20s are not exactly what I would expect from Captain America or Iron Man.

Agree with you here (no, not about Melrose Place, about the dialogue in NA). These are Super people saving the world, is weird that they drop one-liners like if they were the casting of Friends...

From the sixties on, many Avengers fans have understood that the REAL fascinating character developments in this title have involved the characters who didn't have their own solo titles--for the simple reason that most time, major changes of, say, Captain America, would be saved for his own book. There were long periods when fans would say they wanted less of the "Big Three" (Captain America, Thor, Iron Man) and a lot more of the Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, ect. Writers could do lots of cool things with these second tier characters, so it was always fun.
So now we have a book where it's crammed with big names that nobody can really do much with. You can bet nothing big is going to happen with Wolverine or Spiderman in New Avengers. I thought at first that maybe we'd at least get some interesting repartee between Wolverine and Captain America or Luke Cage but that hasn't happened, has it? I really wanted to like this book.
For the first time in 30 years I've stopped buying The Avengers. I guess nothing lasts forever!

I meant no insult to Melrose Place for being compared to New Avengers writing. Or antyhing for that matter. Actually if you called me "New Avenger Writing", i'd be pretty pissed. It's that bad.
