Quick, unscientific survey, to help me in the future: What is your favorite thing about AvengersAssemble? What is your least favorite thing about it? (Besides any dead links-- I know, I know! Working, working!) Thanks!

My favorite thing is networking with other Avengers fans and enthusiasts on the boards.
I also make use of the various information categories (covers, rosters, etc.).
My least favorite thing, not because I have a reason for dislike but because I'm just not into it, is the fan fiction. I just never go there.

my favorite things are the rich amount of background info including classic covers and more importantly, the freedom to discuss anything even if might not be the current party line within marvel. so if I don't like Bendis' work I don't have to hide my opinion. That's a refreshing change from some other inferior sites. the bad? I have yet to encounter any. I wish more members posted on a regular basis. Maybe you just need to get the word out more?

Hmm, my favorite is the "secret files" section, exactly the kind of stuff I look for.
The least favorite (besides dead links) is probably that updates are a bit irregular and sometimes not very frequent.

Thanks for the feedback, thus far. Keep it coming, folks-- it can only help make things better. Shiryu-- I know what you mean. But now that I only have one job, instead of three, I'm able to update things and be involved a bit more than I was in years past. For a while, there, I was simply unable to find time to do all the research and Web posting stuff I needed to. I'm glad folks are coming back to the AA! site now, though, and sort of re-discovering it.

I'm a Webmaster too, and I completely understand what you mean Keeping a website is much more of an unpaid "job" than people may think. I was just commenting with the eyes of the visitor ;D

Favorite things are the great back info here, and the message boards. Like others already sated is a pleasure to come here and have the freedom to post our toughts without having to refrain ourselves or choose the "right" words. The bad is that our community is not as big as it could (and should) be. Let´s spread the word!

I think Avengers Assemble! rocks in general. But this is one feature I appreciate especially: Owen Erasmus reviews - this guy´s reviews are simply outstanding.
I´m writing my own reviews of the classic Avengers stories on my homepage (alas only in german language), so I claim a little bit insight in this matter for myself. I think I´m quite good, but still think Owen´s reviews superior. One thing I´m paying attention to is I always write my own reviews before I´m reading Owen´s. Interestingly enough that we rate/value most times (but not always) the stories similarly.
Btw, the links #72 to #75 are broken, but that will be a matter with Owen´s own site.

Frankly, my least favorite feature is the "Smite/Exalt" function. It serves no purpose, except for certain posters who continually use it to try to "win" arguments they can't otherwise. The board would be vastly better off without this petty temptation. My most favorite part of the AA boards is the positive ratio of knowledgeable fans to homers. Here it's roughly 10-to-1 in favor of the knowledgeable fans. Boards like CBR the ratio is more like 1-to-10, or worse. I appreciate being able to have an intelligent discussion with knowledgeable Avengers fans.

The only question I have with that is wouldn't that just make arguments get to a personal level? When I have exalted people In my 4 long days on here ;D I have messaged them giving them a commendation. I think this encourages exaltable behavior
But Smiting (not having done it yet) I wouldn't write someone. If I choose to smite I think it would only be due to abusive language directly toward another user. Or blatant vulagarity. Or deeply personal attacks.
Would it be possible for the Smite featurs to have a drop window? So when you chose to smite you select the reason from a menu. Then the smitten one would get a personal message saying they had been smitten due to 'whatever' maybe provide a tie in to a specific post?
Example Doom and I are in disagreement about something. I can't overcome his massive intellect in our argument so I make a personal remark about his mother. Ua2 reads this post and clicks 'smite' in the message box where I post the offending comment. He selects 'abusive conduct' in the drop window I receive a message which says "due to this post( showing the offensive post) you have been smitten because of abusive behavior. It WOULD NOT say that Ua2 reported it, because that could lead to a smite war.
This might prevent some of the 'drive-by smiting'

That's actually a good idea Nutcase, but I believe the only option available is "Karma On" and "Karma Off." Honestly RSC, and please don't take this the wrong way but when you say that I get this opverwhelming feeling you really mean it's 10-1 people who don't like Bendis. You've made abdundantly clear in the past that you feel anyone with actual taste dislikes Bendis, and I can't help but think you should be more open minded. If I'm wrong, please do tell me- I will be glad to apologize! And we've discussed this before but I certainly disagree with your assessment of CBR- it's a fine site, with many many fine intellectuals. Hell, there's more smart and good fans on CBR than there are forummers on this site- no slight to this fine site intended of course! Well it sounds 100% plausible so far! ...No but seriously, you get a karma just for the compliment Well you will when I'm recharged from my last exalting anyway... I too agree with the practice, as I've said before, of informing someone via PM if you smite OR exalt them. Or at least mentioning it on the forums. I mean I don't exactly stay up nights crying but I always am curous when it happens to me.

In answer to the original question, I can say this:
What's my favourite thing about Avengers Assemble? The Community. Back when I first joined, there was a light-hearted air, a fun in the site atmosphere. All discussions were civil, we could have an argument while constantly joking through it, etc. Then some of the attacks against Marvel grew more savage and so my defence grew savage and I felt very, very disheartened with this site, barely wanting to come back on.
Today I've been more active than I have in some time and it's because the fun is back. We have nutcase, who I sense already is on his way to being a site staple after only 4 days, and uberwolf seems, if you'll permit me Wolfy, less judgemental than I remember, and talking about classic avengers etc are things we can agree on rather than vicious conflcits over civil wars.
I wonder if Civil War sparked a little forum civil war of our own (Me and The W on one side, a few others on the opposite side, and some stuck in the middle?) and it's now abating itself, because I now remember exactly why I love this board again! YOU GUYS!

I use this site only for research for my annotated, opinionated, extensively spoiled issue recaps that I post at Comixfan.
Your profile for the Black Widow proved disappointing because it does not include a full-length picture of her old black-haired, fish-nets & a mask appearance. I wanted a picture of that costume because that is what she's wearing in this week's "X-Men: First Class" v.2, #9.
At least there's a tiny headshot of her old look in her Wikipedia entry.

Nice save, Shiryu. That there was no full-body shot of the Black Widow is the ONE issue that's always put me off about this site, as well.

This forum is my favorite, especially compared to other forums I've checked out. Mostly because the posters are predominately old-school Avengers fans. The other forums seem to be full of posters who drool over the "90's" style of comics I abhor. Multiple/variant covers, multi-book crossovers, slapdash manga-style artists, endless story arcs(written for trades), and ignorance of established personalities/characters etc., etc. I feel the AvengersAssemble posters "get" what makes the Avengers earth's mightiest. Great stories, art, and characters.
I like the exalt/smite function, and don't really understand why anyone would take it seriously.
I also enjoy all the art and photos on AvengersAssemble. I wish my computer had the capability. Hopefully one day. Really cool collections and comics panels for discussion.
No complaints here, but I would like to see more polls.

I like the new feature that shows who has been logged in during the past 24 hours. We've long wondered about traffic slowing down. This is a nice way to see who is stopping by. It doesn't, however, tell us who is lurking -- but then, everyone needs some privacy.

About this, for those who have been wondering, the changes have nothing to do with me or Van. Proboards, the server hosting us, seems to have upgraded itself to V5, resulting in a few changes in all of its boards blog.proboards.com/2008/04/future-upgrade-discussion.htmlAs far as I can see, the main changes are - Different menu to scroll through the pages in a section. Now we have to type the page number we want to go to, rather than scroll. - "Characters Remaining" value appearing when we post, just under the posting box - The aforementioned list of members who have been around recently As far as I can see, there is no way to return to the previous V4 (or 4.5?) If you notice other new options, feel free to highlight them here

Thanks for the link and info, Shiryu...very illuminating. One side effect I noticed it appears that any past posts that contain material quoted from other posts now show those quotes sans user name and date/time. In other words, only the content of the quoted post remains...but no name or date/time- -the original context is missing.
Going forward (for new posts), it looks like quoted material data will be retained, though.
And it is very interesting to see the traffic on the boards.

I think out of consideration for space on the servers, we should try to keep reviews from other websites in one ongoing thread under each forum. Constantly starting new threads for cut-and-paste posts gets a little cumbersome on the site - it often drives "hot topics" further down the queue.
This suggestion came up in a conversation between myself and a couple of other members offline.

I'll second that motion. I'm sure some people enjoy all the reviews so we should definitely maintain a space for them, but they do tend to push all the other topics down and bury them in each thread. Someone new to the board might think we were just an adjunct of IGN or Newsarama and never see the spirited debates or interesting polls.

Since the motion has been made and seconded, I'll simply say "Aye". Again, I have no problem with posting the reviews, etc. but sometimes I'll log on and think "Wow, look how active the board has been today" which will make me expect some good discussion only to discover it's just a bunch of cut and paste. On the other, the articles often spark some good discussion.

I had completely missed this!! Sorry! So, general agreement on one IGN topic for each section? I don't think there is a "merge" function, so it would only be for the new ones from now on.

I think it's a great idea, personally. Maybe a thread for previews, one for reviews?

The ideal thing would be to edit each comic's post with preview, cover and review(s). But it would be an awful lot of work everytime.
