Does anybody here know if the melodramatic yell "arghhh!" was used first in Comics, or if it was used first somewhere else...? I don´t recall ever hearing it in the so called real world, or in the movies either (perhaps it´s origins lie in Pulp Fiction...?).

I don´t recall ever hearing it in the so called real world, or in the movies either (perhaps it´s origins lie in Pulp Fiction...?). Wikipedia and various other online etymological sources aren't particularly forthcoming on this one, are they? A thread on Sciforums.com shed a bit of illumination, though. "Argh" (and its variants) almost certainly links back to pirate-speak (cliched though it may be), rather than to something as recent as comic books or films. There was a claim (without citation) that it was used in literature as early as the late 18th century. HB
