I've been reading Heroes for Hire since #1, (they're up to #10 as of this post), mostly because Abnett/Lanning and Gage are the only Marvel writers that I feel understand what I like from a Marvel comic book. I've been reading comics in chunks lately, and just read H4H #7-10. Here's a review....
This comic is like the NEW Marvel Team-Up, IMO. The stories are kind of dumb, throw away stories with b-list heroes and c-list villains, but i always liked that. Who wouldn't like a Spidey-Shroud-Elektra-Paladin-Gargoyle team-up? Well, I like it.
Lots of villains, good characterization, good art (Brad Walker was great, Kyle Hotz is meh), very cliche'd script (esp. Misty Knight), it's just fun and reminds me of my old favorite, MTU.
Abnett/Lanning actually write a very good Spidey. I wish they could replace Misty with ol' Webhead. The whole "control" aspect w/ Misty behind the scenes is dumb and played out. But i love this fun comic, and hope it sticks around.
