I just read that Wizard and Toyfare magazines have been cancelled.....
I'm pretty bummed. I picked up my first Wizard mag around 2001. Back then it was chock'full of comic book goodies, so much trivia and neat articles. Wizard was one of the main influences that got me excited about comics again, since I stopped collecting around early 1992. And I had a subscription since 2004. I admit, it really dropped off (less pages, blatant support of crap comics/creators), but I still looked forward to the new issue every month.
And the demise of ToyFare REALLY has me perturbed. I can spend hours just looking at the cool new super-hero figures I would hopefully find and add to my collection. And the articles remembering 70's-80s toys really brought me back. (The Toyfare Theatre stuff was pretty dumb, though).
Oh well, everything must come to an end, i guess. Maybe I'll renew my subscription to Comic Buyer's Guide, after all....but man, that mag has REALLY gone downhill (WAAAY less pages, seldom w/price guides, idiotic reviews, and Peter David--bleccchhh!), and at $10 more than Wizard/Toyfare, what a rip-off. Hopefullly something will come around to fill the void. Any suggestions? ?(other than the Internet stuff)

I guess no one on these boards cares about this cancellation-----but i thought i'd share something--- ....so I ripped Comic Buyer's Guide in this thread, but I gotta hand it to them (Maggie), they JUST sent me a renewal slip for $14.95/year subscription. That's smart business, right there. Even tho it's gone down in quality, it's hard to pass up at just over a buck a mag. These days, I'm all about a deal.

LOL, the same thing arrived in my mailbox this past Monday. I subscribed to CBG a couple of years ago but the issues came late, with a couple never making it to me at all...so I let the subscription lapse and I just got out of the habit of reading CBG. I think the last time I picked up an issue was about a year ago. While I was never a regular reader of Wizard, I'm sorry to see it go (although it will be available online). When I started reading comics again about 5 years ago, Wizard was very helpful in getting me up to speed about today's comics.

Just thought I'd blow off some steam here.....
I've been trying to contact SOMEBODY at Wizard---via e-mail and phone calls, about how I will be reimbursed for the cancellation of Wizard and Toyfare, both of which I have subscriptions that still have 5-6 months remaining. So far no responses---I even reached one PETER KATZ (VP of Business Affairs and Development) on the phone, and was hung up on when I mentioned I wanted to be directed to someone who could help/answer my request. And I was very polite. WTF? Anyone have any experience dealing with cancelled subscriptions? My biggest peeve is getting ripped off for my hard earned $$$. Thanks for any info.

And I was very polite. WTF? Anyone have any experience dealing with cancelled subscriptions? My biggest peeve is getting ripped off for my hard earned $$$. Thanks for any info. Welllllllll I talked to someone with a law degree, and while this corporate stuff isn't even remotely their field, they did have some insight. If the publishers are declaring bankruptcy, then an attorney would be designated to see after the interests of the company's creditors. . . and subscribers would presumably be among them. BUT, it's also very, very likely that the subscribers would be pretty darned low on the list. Actual businesses (printers, suppliers, landlords, etc) would probably be taken care of first--- and if there's no many to keep the magazine(s) afloat as it is, then the liklihood of a refund would be pretty remote indeed. My guess is that's why you were so abruptly hung-up upon (inexcusable, regardless)--- nothing left to lose, and no incentive to deal with you at all. I did google "Toyfare subscription refund" and got some interesting hits. It does look like the company line at this point is along the lines of "another suitable magazine will be substituted for the remainder of your subscription". But, man, there's a LOT of vitriol being thrown around out there about how badly Wizard has been ripping folks off for quite some time now in various ways. It's clearly quite personal for many folks. Forecast doesn't look great, though, S-Foxx--- many sympathies. HB

Wow, thanks HB....
I just wonder if WizardWorld (they have the digital magazine and handle the ComicCons) has anything to do with the magazine(s). The WizardWorld site has NOTHING about the magazine. Thus far, I take back anything nice I might have commented about Wizard/Toyfare. I'm not done seeking justice.
