Was that the shield he used when he was just Lil' Cap'n 'merica? Image still lives! Long live perspective and proportion, I say!! Good lord, give me John Buscema and Neal Adams.

I'm a big Dave Finch fan and he's done fantastic artwork . . . but what the hell?

But come on -- doesn't that pic just scream everything that was wrong with the Image artists back in the day? I mean it is a cool picture -- way too busy for me, though. If I were an inker, I'd quite frankly not be happy. But that shield...

While I don't think it's Liefeld-esque, I do agree that it's far too busy and that shield looks like it was added on at the last second. I LOL'd hard at your post of Lil' Cap'n 'merica.

Bobc, Bobc--you out there? This is the perfect place to get your input-!
jayvers loves this print; dlw & WS not-so-much, as it were.
If you click to the next picture in the link jayvers sent, you'll see that the shield size is indeed a specific choice on Finch's part, not an accident.
I've generally liked Finch a lot, especially when he's been inked well. But there is definitely a Leifeld (sp) influence-- seen particularly in the 2nd print. Some proportion & anatomical issues (Cap, in the first picture, has no, er, "package", as it were, f'rinstance). BUT- I must say that his command of facial structure is far superior to most of those bygone Image artists', which was a HUGE problem for me (with them).
oops, gotta go eat banana-bread---

Looks more like a buckler. Maybe he got a new shield and because of government cutbacks they couldn't afford the full size.

oops, gotta go eat banana-bread--- HB Can't miss the banana bread, Grasshopper! It was, in fact, chocolate-chip banana bread. Indescribably delicious. I did however make the unfortunate domestic error of putting Nutella on it. . . and the wrath of Mrs. HB was terrible to behold. . . (*urp*) HB
