I'm working my way through Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, which was released yesterday, and I have a couple things to mention real quick.
1) The game is a retelling of Civil War -- and it's soooo much better than the actual comic was. They tweaked just a few little details here and there, but the result was that it plays like the game people understood the characters better than Marvel did. Little things like, Maria Hill doesn't attack Cap before the bill is passed, it happens after it's already passed and Cap refuses his orders. Mr. Fantastic actually explains his psycho-history nonsense to everyone before they choose sides (during the meeting in Stark Tower with all the heroes), meaning the Pro Reg side actually makes more sense than it did in the comics in my opinion. Because Cap isn't attacked until after the bill, he actually testifies before Congress against the bill. And if you pick the Anti Reg side (you can play either, with different missions), Cap's whole deal is that the only way to win the war is to convince the public to rescind the law. Now that's Captain America, d**n it!
2) One of the boss fights is Yellowjacket. He grows to like 80 feet tall and you have to wear him out as he punches you senseless with his giant hands. So cool.
So far I'm really enjoying this. Civil War should have been the coolest comic of the decade and it was so disappointing; it's fun to play it the way it should have been done to begin with.

I've played on the anti-Registration Act the game is fun to play the fusion attacks are awesome.
I like how you can play as other teams like the Masterminds team that is Nick Fury, Mr.Fantastic, Iron Man, and Spider-Man.
I already unlocked Thor, Hulk, and Jean Grey too bad I don't have xbox live to get Juggernaut in the game.

Don't worry. I'm sure they'll release a "gold" version with all the online content, just like they did with the first one.
I just bought the "gold" version of the first game yesterday, in fact. I sold back the basic version (for PS2) that I bought when it first came out, along with a bunch of other games, and got a copy of the newer version, so now I can play Hawkeye (whoohoo!), Hulk, and a bunch of other new characters.
Plus, it's fun going back through and unlocking everything again, and the XBOX 360 version looks SO MUCH better than the PS2 version. I'm such a nerd. =p

Plus, Hawkeye is totally ridiculous in the original. He's an absolute monster; more than once I was able to one-shot boss fights on hard mode just using Hawkeye. He's maybe the most powerful character in the game. Which is awesome.

We have the Wii system, and would LOVE to be able to pull Hawkeye in! We've complained about his absence, in fact. Oh please clue us in. . . (By the way-- how delightful were those voice-over "outtakes" during the credit sequence? My kids & I were HOWLING w/ laughter! My wife had to come storming down to see what in the world was going on. . . ) HB

He;s in Ultimate Alliance ONe, yes -- but he's not unlockable. He was added after the game came out, so you either had to buy him as part of a character pack download (which I did on my xbox 360) or buy a version of the game that came out after he was added (which I believe is what thunderstrike did.

Okay, okay-- this is good. Now, bear with me- any thought on how to track that version of the game down now (Wii system, mind you. Not hooked up to the internet.)? Just keep haunting GameStop? Maybe ebay? HB

Game Stop might still have it, or at least a used copy. I think the version you want is the Gold Edition, though you might want to check online to verify that first. I was very happy with my decision to buy the character pack. I ended up going through the game again twice, first with a classic Avengers line-up of Cap, Iron Man, Thor and Hawkeye and then with a team of all the characters in the bonus pack, which was Hawkeye, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Moon Knight. The Avengers team is just sick, but pretty much any team with Hawkeye is going to crush.

I got mine at Gamestop. It's called the "Gold Edition" version, and it included all of the online content released by the developer after the original game was released.
See, after the game proved to be a big success, they started adding characters. I believe there were eight new playable characters in all (4 villians: Venom, Doctor Doom, Magneto and Sabretooth; and 4 heroes: Cyclops, Hawkeye, the Hulk and Nightcrawler). Eventually, they released a second edition of the game to retailers, and then a third edition. The Gold Edition includes all of the online content, and then the Platinum Edition (3rd) adds some sort of DVD movie or something.
I got the one for the Xbox 360, not the Wii, but I'm reasonably sure there are similar Wii versions. The box itself will specify that it's the Gold or Platinum versions, so you shouldn't have to guess.
I imagine that Ultimate Alliance 2 will follow a similar pattern, so I'm holding off on buying it until either the price comes down, or they offer a 2nd edition of some sort.

Well, after hunting on the 'net, I finally popped over to Gamestop, and the fellow there said, nope, those later editions were only released for the xbox 360. Man. It's certainly not worth buying a whole new expensive system for. I wonder why their marketing works this way? Ah well-- thanks for trying to find a solution for me. . . much appreciated! HB

HB- If you get the PC version, you can download extra characters for free from here marvelmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=399.0I haven't tried them yet, but I'm planning to reinstall my pc version and do it ASAP. Also, you can now buy the PC version at rather low price on ebay, just make sure your machine can run it.

And, yes, I will DEFINITELY make sure our machine can run it! About half of my son's Star Wars PC games seem to need special, additional drivers and other doohickies before they can be played (none of which we've installed at this point). Thanks much- HB

In terms of drivers, the only thing they can need is the latest version of Microsoft DirectX, which can be downloaded for free at the Microsoft website. The problem is when they need a more powerful processor/graphic card/RAM memory or a combination of the above. This website cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/offers a free PC scan, checking if the minimum and recommended requirements for specific games are met on a machine. Just select the game from the dropdown menu and click yes when it asks to temporarely install an Active X (it's a safe site). However, keep in mind that the result is not 100% reliable, and it has happened to me that it said I couldn't play a game which instead turned out to work perfectly, because it couldn't quite detect my video card model (in fact, it happened with MUA). It's worht a try though.
