There's a really new new group shot of the Hank Pym statues on www.statuemarvels.com but for some reason the pic won't post here.

I know this is me just being a grumbly old curmudgeon-- and I don't have a sense that HYFAl's ever reading our responses as it is-- but I'm compelled to say that this armor design doesn't really make visual sense to me. Apart from the completely superfluous sculpted muscles all over it, there's the fact that the "regular" armor's arms (and presumably legs) couldn't possibly be inside this space armor's arms (and presumably legs). 'Way too much space displacement between where the inner joints (elbows, wrists, etc) would fall compared to where the outer armor's joints are. Heck, if you just look at the sculpture with that in mind, it becomes hard not to be aware of it. . . Nah-- I'm trying to remember when this space armor popped up. Was it during Layton's long run on the title? I seem to remember having this visual/logistical problem with it before. . .

Yes, it was during that period, HB. ...or the ol' problem of the lack of room for Tony's nose inside the classic helmet... it was even parodied in one of those brief comic sketches of "What If...?".

Heh-- yep, I remember that, Doc-- heh. . . Do you recall (I'm sure you do!) the ill-fated, short-lived solution to that faceplate design flaw? "The Invincible Iron Nose"? Geeze, even FOOM magazine made fun of that (relatively small) addition to I.M.'s visage. . . HB

The link to the Statue-in-Progress is very much worth checking out-- much more along the lines of what grabs the inquiring minds on this board, I think. I have a sculpture acquaintance who works very much the same way (although she makes HUGE pieces)-- from the skeleton on out. Boy, what a talent--- and to be able to carry the vision of the finished product while working out the internal structure-- that's so impressive.
Weapon X, on the other hand--- sheesh. I was buying that daggone series when it came out in Marvel Comics Presents. And I've pretty much always liked Barry W-Smith's work a lot. But this character design?? Ha! Come on! It irritated the bejeepers out of me back then, 'cause no guy-- NO guy, be he an athlete, mutant, cave man, artist, or stay-at-home dad-- is going to be able to function for 30 seconds with a supermarket inventory calculator strapped between his legs and crushed up against his personal regions. Can. Not. Function. Most guys have a tough time accommodating a traditional athletic cup, for pete's sake! Nope-- and "mutant healing factor" doesn't eliminate discomfort, right? No-- so clearly, even in an animal mind-set, he'd simply tear the offending device off---- and there he'd be (with us discretely averting our gaze).
I know, I know-- I'm fussing about inalterable visual canon, here. But heck, this thread provides the perfect opportunity for this sort of chest-unburdening--!
