Okay, I am well aware that upon reading the promos for this book, I boldly stated that I had no interest whatsoever. However, I then learned that in addition to the publicized characters, the staff would be 5 characters that I've always loved (Hank Pym, Quicksilver, Tigra, Justice, Speedball - not Penance) so I decided to give it a try. What do you know? I liked it. I mean, it wasn't just "Not bad" which is the most praise I've been throwing out over the past few years - I really enjoyed reading it. Maybe a new age really is a-coming.
Still sticking to my bold "No Bendis" rule though.

I really liked it, Waspy! I think the whole concept of why the team was put together was fresh and cool, and the art was top notch (excellent anatomy). The costumes for the new characters are very imaginative, and the one "iffy" costume, veil, is actually made fun of by the girl wearing it--which I thought was very good writing. This comic had some very funny moments, like when Tigra refers to Quicksilver as "changing sides more often than a tennis match!" Overall, the dialogue is absolutely, refreshingly great! I hope this comic catches on because it is very good and I love the fact that Tigra and QS are in it!
Speaking of dialogue and Bendis, I accidentally purchased the latest Avengers title he wrote, not realizing it was him, and within one minute of reading the stilted, one to four word soundbites he relentlessly passes off as dialogue, I stopped reading it. I won't make that mistake again.

For me it was so-so, I liked all the bits with Quicksilver, Justice, Tigra and Pym, loved the return of Speedball after the Penance phase, but at the moment I don't really care about the new guys, possibly with the exception of Veil. So I think a lot of it will depend on how well they keep the balance between new and old characters.

Yeah--who knows where this will go but for me it looks very promising.

I was pretty dissappointed, it felt like this has all been done before, and better. The story was just ok.
The art was very good, though. The color was fantastic.
Yeah, the newbies are pretty bland, while the "Avengers staff" , while all great members, imo, could form a group called the "Whiney Avengers". They just don't seem like level-headed, disciplinarian "teachers", to me. But as long as Tigra's there, and the nice art, I'll give it a shot....we'll see.
Oh, and was that ending supposed to be a shock, or twist(?), because it wasn't.
