I haven't seen anyone here comment on the film since it has been out? What were people's thoughts?
For me, I though Black Widow was the best part of the movie. I also really liked War Machine and Whiplash (Though I don't think they ever actually called him that). There were two things thought that seriously damaged the movie for me. 1st was Iron Man himself. I don't mind some arrogance on the part of Tony Stark but this Stark was just plain unlikeable. I could very easily see the influence of Bendis and Quesada on this movie because the character was so consistent with the way the character has been portrayed in the books for the past several years. Unfortunately, I have grown to despise the character of Iron Man in the books so this was not a good similarity. The 2nd problem was the actor who played Justin Hammer. He seemed to deliver every single line as though it were a punch line and it often (Usually) didn't fit the scene. I thought his was one of the worst acting jobs I've seen in a movie in a very long time.

Iron Man 2 suffered from the same problem every super hero sequel has since Batman Returns. You cannot take decades of back story and villains and stick them all together in a 2 hour movie! The first Iron Man was a slick origin reboot. This movie just tried to squeeze in too much.
I agree, Justin Hammer was a joke. He was a whiney ass Stark wannabe. The Justin Hammer I grew up reading was nothing of the sort. As for the Black Widow, for me she was just a throw in. The movie could have gone just as well without her in it.
Think I read some where the actor that played Hammer was originally cast as Stark until Downey signed up. Not a bad movie, but nowhere near as endearing as the first.

Son of HB's movie insights are often keener than mine, but we both liked it quite a lot. Although it had flaws, I'd say we both enjoyed it just about as much as the first film, but possibly on different merits.
-Surprisingly, the "too-many-new-characters" trap that ALL of these franchise sequels can't seem to avoid didn't hurt this film as badly as it does most. I do agree that Black Widow was completely superfluous to the story arc (and I also feel Scarlett Johanson reads as too young for the character), but she wasn't used inappropriately, and didn't dominate unnecessarily. Overall, the synthesis of getting her & Whiplash & Fury & even Hammer balanced into the storyline worked. . . okay (as opposed to, say, Spiderman III).
-The Robert Downey Jr/Gwyneth Paltrow dynamic is fantastic, and I'm glad they give it plenty of time, considering this is an action film. The numerous scenes where they talk on top of each other's lines, while still hearing what the other is saying? That is INCREDIBLY difficult, and requires both skill and professional chemistry (the latter being something you don't know's there until it's being used!). This alone elevated the film for me.
-Don Cheadle--- is a better Rhodey, I'm afraid. I thought Terrence was a weak point in the first film.
-Except for Hammer-- everyone is quite good! Cast is outstanding. And in that actor's defense, I'm not sure if the problem is that he's not good, but rather that the mantle of "comic relief" was foisted upon him by the director or studio, thus severely limiting where he could go with that role. Or possibly that he was just mis-cast in the first place for the same reasons. It was more like he was in the wrong movie, for me. (Son of HB hated him)
Problems:
-Well, Hammer, yes. And I'd still give a partial tick for too many new, superfluous, marketing-driven characters.
-After some darned good action sequences & chase scenes, that last battle w/ Whiplash is ridiculously quick. Really, to the point of it being a meaningless confrontation at all. The formula correctly demands that that particular confrontation needs to be the one that takes the ultimate effort & biggest toll on the protagonists, as it did in the first film. Man, it was just weak. And it was two against one, at that!
-Big CGI problem for Son o' HB: inconsistent or non-existent environmental effects when armoured robots or people would come slamming down for a hard landing. Especially when accompanied by a big sound effect. Drove him crazy. (These kids today got nothin' better to focus their attention on, I guess. . . )

I guess I am in the minority, but I really liked Hammer in this movie. I'm a big fan of Sam Rockwell and I thought he did a pretty fun Hammer even if it wasn't the Hammer from the comics.

I loved the movie, I also liked Hammer, I was relieved Whiplash had a REAL costume at the end (although i disgree this was a Crimson Dynamo take-off), BUT the part i really enjoyed was the Black Widow fight scene. Now that's a cool scene, and played out like a comic book scene, IMO.

Like I said it wasn't a bad movie. I just few the flow would have been a lot smoother if the hadn't tried to incorporate too many elements. It'll be added to my movie collection when it comes out on DVD.
I agree HB, Cheadle was a much better Rhodey.

I thought the movie definitely had moments, but I do agree I didn't enjoy it as much as the first. I do think this one did seem to balance the many-characters decently, but I'm still holding myself in reserve, worried a little of the Avengers movie. While multi-man team movies are possible (such as the first X-Men film), I hope it doesn't get bogged down. Currently, the supposed team (should those rumored/already been in films) be added, we're looking at: Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, War Machine, Hawkeye and (maybe) Hulk. That seems like a lot of characters, when you don't count any sort of villain, either.
I think however this movie really seemed to take on a comic book feel that the first one had. You had decent fights (the track fight, the inititial fight between Rhodey and Stark in his house, Black Widow doing her thing), and I did enjoy the characters. I also found the nods to both Cap and the after-credits bit to be nicely added as well.
