As Dlw's and others have suggested, to decrease the workload on the servers and avoid burying old topics too quickly, we should compress all the web reviews (IGN, Newsarama etc) in a single topic in each section. So from now on, we should post all the ones about Mighty Avengers here only, ok? EDIT: To help everyone find what he wants when this topics became big, a good index is in order. Time to read Ign's review of Mighty Avengers #22.
I didn't really feel as strongly as I wanted to about Dan Slott's Mighty Avengers shake-up last issue. In his haste to get all his toys out of the toybox and put them in place, I felt that the organic nature of the team-building exercise was lost, as was his signature Dan Slott tone. Issue #22 slows things down a bit (comparatively, anyhow) and gives the characters room to breathe and bounce off one another. It's an improvement, surely, and shows a fair amount of promise in this new setup.
There's certainly an undeniable old-school charm about this new incarnation of the title. When you've got Hank Pym leading a team whose membership includes Jacosta and Hercules, facing down Mordred and his new slave Bova in Wundagore, you know you're not reading the same kind of hyper-contemporary tales you might find in Bendis's New Avengers. In many ways it seems like the rebirth of the '70s and '80s style Avengers books. It's a very likable alternative to where the other Avengers titles are heading.
As I said, there's a number of improvements this issue, not least of which is the handling of the cast. The brisk pace of last issue got in the way of characterization for me. It felt like Wanda just assembled the team and pointed them in the right direction -- insert tab A into slot B, if you will. This issue, Slott dirties it up a bit and makes the cast a little less easily congealed, drawing on the characters' histories. It also gives him an opportunity to indulge in some of his witty banter skills and give the characters a little more personality, something I personally look forward to in a Slott comic.
Amidst all the craziness last issue, I neglected to mention the work of regular penciller Khoi Pham. Pham is an artist who turned in some very impressive visuals on Incredible Hercules, but is also responsible for one of the worst-looking issues of Mighty Avengers, the Elektra Secret Invasion tie-in. His work this issue falls somewhere in between. Make no mistake, it tells a clean story with very little distraction, but the heavy ink job doesn't do his work many favors, and he struggles to get a handle on the Iron Man armor. The book has its moments, though, and Pham renders an imposing Hulk - it's a joy to watch the character unleashed.
I didn't expect to enjoy this issue of Mighty Avengers as much as I did. Thankfully, Dan Slott seems to be promptly hitting his stride and if the pattern continues, we'll have a great addition to the Avengers line on our hands.
Review Score: 7.7 Good

As for Mighty Avengers #22-
I don't have much good to say about this, I guess I'm pretty dissappointed after last ish.
and my bad feelings about including US Agent were correct, so far. If Slott wanted an antagonistic, "jerk" member, I wish he would have included Clint/Hawkeye (who Bendis is destroying as a character in NA as I post this). or Moondragon, or ANYBODY, rather than USAgent. And <SPOILER ALERT> when USAgent decides to "bring in" Hercules as a fugitive, yeah, great idea Walker, good luck with that.
And Pham is still another weak spot for this title. He seems to come from the Leinil Yu school of "scribbly background figures". And his fight scenes don't make much sense, it's hard to tell who's beating up who. And , yes, the "fat" Iron Man, I don't know, that's just bad.
I hope this gets better.

I enjoyed the issue. I'm interested in the direction they are going. It definitely felt more like a team book than any Avengers book has in a long time. There seems to be the potential for some nice relationships between the many divergent characters. Although I am not sure the Pym - Jocasta thing (if it really is going to be a "thing") is a choice I'd make but I'm willing to see where it goes.
I'm also hopeful that we'll see a redemption of sorts for Wanda.

It sounds like some of the classic battles when super teams fought in the past rather than teammates fighting each other. All this after they've just fought an actual villain. Who says this isn't the Marvel Age of Comics? (Okay, generally I do, but while I'm basking in the days of yore, it just felt like it would be fun to say that. If Slott could start a trend, I might even say "Make Mine Marvel." Boy, that would be fun.)

As for Mighty Avengers #23
I still believe Khoi Pham is hurting this book. I feel Slott's storytelling is hurt by the strange/inappropriate expressions Pham draws. IMO everyone looks like they are farting.
and Slott's characterization of Hercules is all wrong. It's hard for me to see Herc as a technology-savvy, intelligent character. And his speech, well, it's just wrong, a far cry from the noble god I'm used to.
And Hank Pym is way too whiney, hardly capable of earning the respect of his teammates. at least so far. Also, I don't get how the Ant-man helmet is capable of controlling minds, I must have missed something there.
and Vizh and Jocasta were virtually invisible.
But the final reveal was cool. I'm actually hoping this female Loki could actually be the Enchantress, which would make more sense for me.
Overall, still just OK, but with a better artist I think this book would be a LOT better.

I'm done buying Marvel comics. I bought this comic for the first time yesterday and I read the opening blurb--and discovered that Iron Man has been absolved of his duties and both Shield and the Avengers have been turned over to Osbourne, a known criminal. WTF? No explanation (mercifully, I'm sure). And of course there is yet another cabal of super-villains (haven't we already seen this stale plot device 100 times in the past couple of years?)secretly conspiring behind the scenes with the new head of Shield/the Avengers.
This is third rate, fifth rate stuff. I'm not spending another dime on this crap.

Not to be consistantly negative.... but the Unspoken?! The whole Sentry idea was bad enough that they had to creative a villian with the same backstory? Oh, he was here all along, with the power of a million exploding black holes, it's just everyone forgot. At least it's not he BENDIS! right? He didn't come up with the idea, so it might be ok.

Ignore Me: It's called incompetent writing. I am sick of being negative too but this is stuff is just beyond the pale. Seems like most of the people writing for marvel are following Bendis' approach to writing--sloppy, inconsistent, lazy, incompetent. I know it's only comics, but come on. Do people even have expectations anymore?

Not to nitpick, but with the threads titled like this, I'm having trouble figuring out which issue is being reviewed or posted about. I like skimming the threads so I don't read about an issue until I've read it, and it's pretty tough to figure out what's what.
Maybe if the posters started their posts with <RE: TITLE #>, but I know that might be a pain in the butt.
