There will be another secret Invasion series that will have Spider
-Man in it, Here's the interview about the series from ign.com
IGN Comics: Let's get the basics out of the way: are we looking at a one-shot? Mini-series? Ongoing series based on the adventures of Spider-Skrull? When will this be shipping?
Brian Reed: I'd love to tell you this is a new ongoing series, following the adventures of Ben Reilly as he discovers he is actually a Skrull posing as a clone who thinks he's Spider-Man... alas, Marvel wants to make money.
media.comics.ign.com/media/142/14248319/img_5462278.htmlWacker: This is a 3-issue mini shipping August-October that takes place essentially during the Battle for Manhattan. And "Spider-Skrull" is oh-so-close.
IGN Comics: On the surface it seems like Peter Parker's role in Secret Invasion is covered – he's in the Savage Land fighting a guy who looks like him. What threads is this project picking up and how will it weave into the larger Secret Invasion picture?
Reed: We're doing three issues focusing on the cast of Brand New Day. This is really the first chance we've had to see these new characters (and in the case of established characters, new situations) interact with the events of the rest of the Marvel Universe.
IGN Comics: Spider-Man has major plot threads developing over in Brand New Day. Will we see any developments from this series spill over to Amazing Spider-Man or vice versa?
Reed: We'll see a lot of things happening in ASM echoed here. I'll let Wacker say whatever he wants here since I'm not sure what he wants to mention and what he doesn't!
Wacker: Brand New Day has introduced Spidey's new status quo, so there's no way not to show those developments here. This is definitely a part of everything we're doing in Amazing. Jackpot plays a pretty big role in Brian's story as we explore what kind of hero she is and setting her up for a big story in this year's Amazing Spider-Man Annual which ships a week after this mini wraps up.
media.comics.ign.com/media/142/14248319/img_5462275.htmlIGN Comics: Much of Secret Invasion has been set up over the past several years. Has there been anything like that in the works for Spider-Man? Would the One More Day events foil any pre-existing Skrull plans?
Reed: Why would the Skrulls care if Spider-Man was married? Wait! Where has MJ been ever since the end of One More Day?!
IGN Comics: Given that Spider-Man is more or less an "everyman" and no one knows his identity, would there be much advantage in the Skrulls messing with Peter's life?
Reed: Spider-Man is a member of the New Avengers, some of the most powerful superheroes on Earth. It doesn't matter who lives under that mask, that's a group of people you want to infiltrate.
IGN Comics: Brian, outside of a Spider-Man Unlimited story, this appears to be your first major work with the wall-crawler. We wanted to get some background on your experience with Peter Parker – the appeal of writing him, favorite villain, favorite story, and so forth.
Reed: In comics, I have written a team up issue with Spidey and Ms. Marvel, but that's actually something that will be coming down the line. I have also written a couple of Spider-Man video games now (Ultimate Spider-Man, and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe), so me and Peter Parker, we're getting to be pretty good friends.
As far as the appeal of writing him -- he's got a great sense of humor, and a sense of honor and loyalty to his friends and family that is immeasurable. It's always fun to take somebody that d**n likable, and throw them under the bus. Which is what Spider-Man is all about. Oh, your life is going great? Well, boom, your life just came tumbling down. That's Spider-Man. That's Marvel. That's fun.
media.comics.ign.com/media/142/14248319/img_5462272.htmlIGN Comics: You had a direct hand in shaping the events that led to Secret Invasion when you co-wrote New Avengers: Illuminati with Brian Bendis. However we're curious what you thought when you first heard the premise? Had Brian completely fleshed out his master plan when he began telling you what was happening? Were you aware of the bigger picture when Illuminati was kicking off?
Reed: I dug the idea when I first heard it, which was two, maybe three years back now? When I first heard of it, the whole pitch was basically "the Skrulls have been replacing heroes, and the Avengers are going to have to deal with it." But, yeah, by the time we were doing Illuminati #5, I knew the size and the scope of the Invasion, and just what it was we were setting up.
IGN Comics: We'd like an assessment on the likelihood of the following people being Skrulls:
Harry Osborn?
Reed: Skrull.
IGN Comics: Menace?
Reed: Skrull.
IGN Comics: Aunt May?
Reed: Herald of Galactus.
IGN Comics: Peter Parker?
Reed: Spider-Man (who is also a Skrull).
IGN Comics: Who is the artist working on this project?
Wacker: Marco Santucci a fantastically fluid Italian artist who was thankfully introduced to me by Simone Bianchi. Covers will by by Mike McKone.
IGN Comics: Anything else you'd like to add about Secret Invasion: Spider-Man at this time?
Reed: I liked my title more: The Amazing Spider-Man: Brand New Secret Invasion, but I'm told that wouldn't fit on the cover.
Wacker: Lose the vowels and I'll make it fit! THAT'S good editing!
