Here's Ign's review on Avengers/Invaders #2.
Steve Rogers refuses to rest in peace. We are now on the third limited series with him in the cast to be released since his death. They have to run out of new way to temporarily bring him back sooner or later. I would complain more about it, but I'm just thankful I didn't have to review the one with the inexplicable Avengers/Transformers combination…
This iteration of Captain America is brought to you by way of good ole fashioned time traveling fog. Yep, fog. It's simple, contrived, and makes my brain hurt, but still does get the job done. Thankfully, Ross and Krueger don't take it too seriously and poke fun at it as well. Also of note after two issues, we've now had two unnecessary fights started by the exact same reason. Things like that make me weary of supporting a series that's 12 issues in length, since they're already resorting to redundant filler. The fights aren't even well constructed either. Having the Sentry throw one punch and then disappear doesn't make any sense. I understand he's hard for writers to write for, since he could have easily taken the Invaders all out himself, but just ignoring that altogether makes it even worse.
I'm also concerned with the depiction of Cap, since his thinking/actions have so far consisted of the following: "They have to be Nazis!!! Get them!!!" I know Steve Rogers isn't exactly an intellectual powerhouse, but I give him more credit than that. Hopefully, the mistaken identity cliché will run its course in the near future
Even with all that, the story isn't hopelessly lost. The Tony Stark "Anguish Over Cap's Death" aspect of the plot is handled better than it usually has been. I've been critical of the continuation of that theme of late, but I have no problem with it in this case. Also, Ross/Krueger honor the changes made in the last few years to Bucky's previously innocent façade. They even go to extreme (and somewhat gory) lengths to show that side of his character.
All this begs the question though, should you be reading this series? It's not tied to any other ongoing current events, since it seems like everything occurs before Secret Invasion. That also limits any effect it'll have on other events outside this series. Unless you have any particular affection for the Invaders or Ross/Krueger themselves, then I would say pass it, since 12 issues is a big commitment for a very mediocre series.
Review Score: 5.6 Medicore
(I really don't agree with this review caused I loved reading Aven
