I'd like to clarify something. On questions 5, 6, 7, and 8, is it "Best within the Avengers title itself," or is it "Best within the Avengers family of titles?"

As I think most of us understand the poll, it's whoever/whatever falls within the composite list of titles (elsewhere in this category) who the voter feels affected the Avengers/a major Avenger.

I'd like to clarify something. On questions 5, 6, 7, and 8, is it "Best within the Avengers title itself," or is it "Best within the Avengers family of titles?" There's not a hard and fast rule. I think the intent is that people would vote for someone who was an active Avenger at some point in 2006. On the other hand, "once an Avenger, always an Avenger." So, if Thor wasn't on the current roster, but had a particularly noteworthy year, you could vote for him. And to clarify the other frequent question... the "Book Everyone Should Be Reading," does not have to be an Avengers-related title.

Johnny, if you’re referring to category #4, “Best Active Avenger”—well, my take has been that “Active Avenger” means an active Avenger, someone currently on the team during the timeframe in question. So, for 2006, my view would be that Thor most certainly doesn’t qualify, except perhaps in a flashback somewhere. That’s why I was surprised when Ms. Marvel was a runner-up in that category for 2005. I would agree that in categories #5–8, the scope is wide enough to admit choices from comics that don’t necessarily have the word “Avengers” in their titles. So far as I know, we have not had these categories officially defined or otherwise dissected. The wording does leave some ambiguity. This is part of the problem in defining a list of “Avengers-related” comics. Just my two cents, of course.

John --
Again, thanks for all of your work and administration on this fun idea that got going again a year ago! Those of us who have and will participate are certainly grateful to you (and to Van) for allowing us a little debate and an opportunity to express our favorite works of the past year of Avenging!

John --Again, thanks for all of your work and administration on this fun idea that got going again a year ago! It's no problem. I love this kind of stuff. I was glad to see so many good nominations for best "moment" of the year, since I would have been hard pressed to come up with a bunch on my own. Now I will be curious to see how closely the actual voting follows the nominations. And to see if the group comes to a consensus on some of the more wide-open categories.
