So, is it a good one? Yes, I think so. For me, Straczynski seems to have quite some fun writing FF - his stories are easily the best since the Heroes reborn restart. And McKone´s art is awesome!
About the story: The opening sequence with Thor´s hammer falling on Earth is thunderous not to say galactic. For me, that scene (and the writing) has definitely some 70s feeling and I do like that.
Then again some nice dialog/characterization between Sue an Reed (Reed coming home late at night, directly from the Illuminati meeting), a funny scene with Reed waking up a sleepy Ben, who does think there cannot be anything of importance down there in the boonies and then Doom... I find the waves of Doombots attacking the place of discovery a bit weak, as well as Reed needing a bit much time to see through underlying plan of attack.
But the entry of Doom himself is as predominant as determined - that´s the Doom I do like! ;D
Your thoughts about the story?

It has a great cover ! Can't say anything else for a few months, unless I manage to find a recap somewhere on the web

I liked the issue, except for when Doom showed up. Reed's reaction was pretty much "oh no." I found it a little annoying that he wasn't more bothered that Doom came back from Hell or was wondering why and how he managed to do so.
Other than that (and a small, annoying continunity blip with "Amazing Spider-Man"), it was pretty good.

Hmmmm, I'm mixed. I think that I will wait for part two. However, I did pick up the Thor: Disassembled issue to see where Thor might be returning from, and it rocked. I read the whole thing in two sittings, and much of it, including the dialougeless fight scenes I read twice. It should have been called Thor: The End (in recent Marvel fashion) because, it is. So much death, in fact, everone but Thor dies (but he does rip out both his eyes...) Now I really can't wait for Thor's return.
peace!

Personally, I didn´t like Ragnarok that much. Wasn´t that bad, but first I was really dissapointed that Jurgens had to make such a harsh ending of his run. Second, for me Ragnarok was quite a palpable forced ending. Kind of, not much time left, so end it no matter how you do it. Anyway, I agree with you: I´m eagerly waiting for a new Thor series, too!

Do you guys remember that the Hammer crosses path with an airplane? I think that will have something to do with the new Thor...

Do you guys remember that the Hammer crosses path with an airplane? I think that will have something to do with the new Thor... ...and I quote: "...a story for another day." or, something like that. Say, I didn't read the Dan Jurgens stuff, what happened there?

Say, I didn't read the Dan Jurgens stuff, what happened there? That was some nice stuff. In short: after Thor became allfather he retreated more and more, cared mainly for his asgardian duties. Then he was more and more worshiped by humans, which was a big rival especially for the Roman Catholic Church. Of course, the Catholic church didn´t like it a bit. So they were resisting Thor as were more and more goverments and super heroes, because Thor (and the Asgardians) took over more and more responsibility for the whole word - he literally ruled Asgard and Earth. There was much resistance, much fights (the resistance even destroyed Asgard which dangled above NY at that time - the destroying was a very bad idea ;D) and some nice story plots. Personally, I liked especially the characterization of Loki. So there was an ever growing conflict between the Asgardians and the resistance, which even could convince Thor´s son Magni (correctly written?). Finally, Thor was convinced too (this "happened" already about 200 years in the future) and Thor undid everything. That was mainly the last part of Jurgens´ run and then came Ragnarok.
