What do you folks think of Thor vol. 2? I was looking at my Comic Base program this morning and went through each cover for volume 2. I had never seen most of these books, as it was a period where I was out of comics almost completely. It looked like there were some potentially interesting stories here, including a few issues with Thanos, a few with Gladiator, and the whole Thor-replacing-Odin storyline. Dan Jurgens was the writer for the majority of the run.
How say ye: yea or nay?

Nea I have most of it, except for some issues in the first third. Some stories were quite good, the battle with Thanos, the clash with Gladiator, the Dark Gods etc, but the final storyline of Thor: lord of earth was dragged way too long for my taste, and the quick, sudden ending put it down further. Apparently, Jurgens had good plans for Thor after that, but he had to tie the loose ends and leave to make space for Disassembled tie-in. The art was up and down, my favourite artist was Bennet, who was actually a replacement, and Romita Jr wasn't too bad either. I personally didn't like the Kubert or (especially) Immonnen issues. Raney had some nice ones, but the stories were uneventful for what I can remember.

My heart nearly stopped to see someone had responded to this question! Thanks Shiryu.
I actually picked up a couple issues at the comic shop about a week ago and wasn't too impressed. They were part of the Thanos storyline (but I was missing the issue in between). It didn't seem like Jurgens had the hang of the Asgardian dialogue style, just seemed very stilted. Still, it was nice to read a new (to me) Thor story. Been gone so long...boy, I hope JMS knows what he's doing with the son of Odin.

If you happen to find it somewhere, try to get the 2001 (and last) annual, "When fall the Gods". While not a big fan of annuals usually, I think that's one of the best stories in V2 (and it starts and ends all in one issue ^^). If you like the cosmic adventures type of stories, or the team ups with Hercules and Beta Ray Bill, you would probably enjoy annual. Here is the cover www.immortalthor.net/annual-2001.jpg

Apparently, Jurgens had good plans for Thor after that, but he had to tie the loose ends and leave to make space for Disassembled tie-in. As far as I remember from an interview with Jurgens he had already planned to end his run. But he could not end the storyline the way he wanted, means, he had to rush it for the Disassembled-Thing... Personally I enjoyed his allfather Thor storyline very much (especially Loki´s role was imho really cool), that whole thing was really something I hadn´t read before.
