Did it seem to anyone else that Tony had a deathwish throughout this whole series.
Comparing himself to Lincoln. Surmising he might not make it through the whole thing. Telling Cap to make the killing shot.
Almost like he felt he had to die to win the argument.

It's an interesting point. I wonder, though, if it was intended as misdirection to convince readers that Tony would be a casualty of the Civil War.
I read Iron Man through the end of Extremis, and as far as I can remember there was nothing revealed in his book that might suggest he had a death wish.

I just keep thinking back to the conversation he had with (I think Peter Parker) where he was doubting his ability to survive the war.

Well, if he's got a death wish, he hasn't fulfilled it - so it should continue to show up in places where Iron Man appears: his own book, Mighty, and perhaps the Initiative.

Looking at his own book, I see this relationship developing with the lady who invented Extremis. I think she is all about getting him back for putting her away. So more self destruction. I am sure we are seeing a return to the bottle in the very near future.

Naa, I don't think a return to the bottle would be good. He ALMOST did in #14 but Susan stopped him, good lass that she is!
I don't think he had a deathwish- more, he thought he would die. And I'd say he'd much rather die himself than have Cap die. And I think Cap would say the same with the roles reversed.

I'm just thinking with the plot devices being used recently, the powers that be, may decide to put the bottle back in Tony's hand.

He's certainly under enough stress, considering the responsibilities he has, the people he has betrayed who no longer like him (yes, he did it for what he saw as the greater good, but that won't make them like him), the gigantic secret he carries about what he did to win the Civil War.
The problem is, that story has already been told once. I'm tend to suspect that vein is tapped out. Besides, if Tony crawls back into the bottle, who takes over the Initiative? Cap's dead, Spidey's an outlaw (and unsuited to the position anyway), Ms. Marvel isn't really a flagship character... who?

It's been quite some time since they played this vein, and the powers that be might decide that Tony could go back to it. Everyday alcoholics do it all the time (experience) And he would still lead the initiative. It COULD actually be a decent plot device. Tony believes he is strong enough to stand up to the bottle. He slowly starts losing control and drags other things down with him. I would probably follow it for a while.

(Fanfare...) THE SENTRY...!!! The Sentry is an emotional cripple. Him leading SHIELD would be the best thing that could happen... to the anti-registration forces!

Exactly... except maybe for a relapsed Stark.

For the first little while, Stark would be on top of the bottle, but you would see it slowly start to affect his actions. A gradually increasing downward spiral.
but it would also be humbling, maybe that's a good direction to go.
